BMW Ultimate Drive was a complete waste.

Maybe I expected much more. I had been a participant of the Susan Komen for a Cure Drive events in the past so I compared it to them. By comparison...

The Ultimate Drive had much less vehicles. I think they had 4 or 5 BMW's. Most importantly they didn't have any 3 series, which was my main reason for going. When I asked why not, their response was that the 3 series is very common and I could find them every day on the dealer's lot. They said their focus was to introduce people to the not-so-common BMW models that normally aren't on the dealer's lot. But that didn't make sense, because they had a X3 and X1, and those models are easily available on every dealer's lot. It was just a piss poor selection of vehicles. I think they entirely made up the excuse. They had no Audi's. They had two Mercedes. I test drove the GLK and honestly liked it over the X3.

I eventually did end up driving a 328-xdrive series, but only after listening to the sales speal from a salesman and him accompanying me along for the ride. I could have done that any day of the week. The test drive just wasn't the same as driving the route by yourself. I prefer taking test drives by myself.

Anybody else find these Ulimate Drives to be a complete waste of time?

Plus, the $1,000 off coupon expires this October so that gives me just two months to finalize my plans and purchase a car. I would have liked it to be good for 12 months after I receive the coupon.

Garage List
Event was not like past events i've been to but the $1000 will go to a 2014 335i x-drive m sport for me. I also do like to test drive by myself which i didnt get a chance to do. I asked a few questions to the event staff about what changed on the chasis / gear box for the 13/14 model and no one could answer my question since i'm getting MT 6 speed. There were no BMW reps at the dealer that drove MT. I have no idea how the sales staff can sell a product that they dont know about. Other issue I have is that I was unable to locate a MT 335i to test drive in the NE region. I live in NY and there are none w/in 250 miles.

Be thankful you got the coupon, why complain?
A $1000 is a $1000. You can see the cars elsewhere but you just got $1000, are you not happy?

Me too. The finishing touches of the GLK were nicer. It seemed to sit better in it's height under hard braking & acceleration too. Only thing I found to complain about was the "manual" shifting using the paddles - it took it's sweet time downshifting when I was trying to get it to giddyup.

When I was shopping for my car last year, I went to the dealer and asked to see any pre-owned E60s they had. The salesperson said "E60? I know we have a nice E55. Is the E60 the new Mercedes?"

I left.

Speaking in vehicle VIN-code is something limited to the forum demographic. He probably looked at you like you were stupid, and rightfully so.

Frankly, it's overdone on forums, especially BMW forums. Just say the goddam model...no one thinks you're cooler for knowing the difference in the designnation of the generation.

Thank for you noticing, I did too.

This was in 2012. Both E60 and F10s were on the lot. Major automotive magazines routinely use chassis codes with BMWs. I'd expect salespeople to know them as well.

Go drive your car off of a cliff. Seriously.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but to the point about BMW development (Entwicklung) codes, I find them really helpful.
When discussing 3, 5, or 7 series, it's extremely relevant to know which model you're referring to.

And, since I'm a nerd, I'll share a pic of my driveway. Look closely at the license plates. Embrace the entwicklung codes!

+1 for this.

When people say 5-series, I think "which one do you mean?" Using model codes honestly simply it...heck if I say "I bought a porsche 911" will you know which one I bought?

I would say 60-70% of BMW salespeople will have no idea what you're talking about. It's sad but you'll find yourself walking out of lots of dealerships if you use that terminology.

Not sure why yours was so limited ours had a loaded A7, A6, E550, S550 and a variety of other cars. I think even an A8. I didnt really care since I was getting a new 7 and as the others said $1000 is exactly that free money! Took 20 mins of my time and I drove a few Audis to boot.

At the event I attended in MD, in May, I test drove an M sport 3 series. Not impressed but I got a free BMW coffee mug and I ate 7-8 complimentary sandwiches... I know, I'm fat...

The GLK was a way better car then the X3. I enjoyed the event free food, goodies, and I got to drift the CLS550.

I forgot that I signed up for an Ultimate Drive a couple months ago and when my reminder email came last week, I decided to skip it since I remembered reading this post. What did I skip it for? To buy an excellent condition E34. Thanks!
