Screeching noise
The other day is I drove off I got about maybe 2000 feet and suddenly I heard an awful screech sound coming from under the hood. It stopped as I accelerated, and it came back about 20 minutes later for 30 seconds and then it went away again. And it hasn't come back, but it's got me a little worried. And I wanted to get advice first before going to the dealer. Any thoughts? The car was sitting for about a week. And it's under outside carport and we just had a major storm if that makes any difference.

Pop the hood and look for any obvious problems (fluids, debris, etc.). If you don't see anything obvious and it doesn't come back, I wouldn't worry about it. If it returns, take it to the shop. |

Almost always a belt slipping or pulley bearing squealing, often the tensioner if it is a pulley. Pretty much true of any car on the road.
Might not need replacement, there are various belt dressings and such available. They spray on and are a bit "sticky". |

Valid info but it's quite unusual for a vehicle that's only a few months old.

I get a screeching noise every time I accelerate hard in Sport Plus mode. That would be my wife.

I'm going to go with the 'stone in the brake heat shield' as the likely cause, but wouldn't discount other reasons.

A belt could slip if someone slopped a little oil around at the last time it got changed... |

Appreciate all the comments. I have not driven it since and it's a HUGE pita to get the car to a dealer. I'm going to try and check it out again tomorrow. I did reach around the front rotors for an obstruction but couldn't find anything. I actually have not looked under the hood. That would be too obvious. . I've also been pretty sick of late

Started the car and opened the hood. Everything looked and sounded pristine. Took the car out and ran it like I stole it. Not one strange sound. Wonder what that could have been. It was really like a banshee screech.

For future reference, one good way to help isolate such problems is to pay attention to the frequency, if it increases or decreases with road speed or engine RPM changes. Generally, if it changes with engine speed (RPM), it's likely associated with the engine or components driven off of the engine. If instead the frequency of the noise changes with vehicle speed, there's a good chance it's associated with the wheels, brakes, or connected components. If the frequency doesn't change with speed or RPM, there's a good chance it's something else. There are exceptions, but these general rules can help.
