Good for him. Had a goal in life, accomplished it, collected millions in the process and decided to move on.

Not seeing why this should bother anyone whether you like him or not.

Would love to see Max get this seat! Given his epic drives this year, and with a Merc behind him, Max could easily be the 2017 world champion.

German F1 expert Michael Schmidt reckons Jenson Button is the perfect candidate for the Mercedes hot seat, at least for one interim year.

Exciting idea

Shots Fired!

How does HAM really feel?

“This is the first time he’s won [in their rivalry since karting] in 18 years, hence why it was not a surprise that he decided to stop."

Damn dude. Just stop talking. You sound a tad bitter. Let ROS have his moment in the sun and be happy for him.

So sick and tired of Hamilton and his complete lack of humility. He's just a dick. Most unlikable person on the grid. Everything with him is always sour grapes.

You can say he's a "true racing driver" or has the heart of a champion, but at the end of the day, that doesn't mean shit if you're not nice. He wants to be Senna but it ain't gonna happen when he's acting like a petulant child.

I think he would too. That would be wild racing. You think it would be a bit early for him to bail on Red Bull though? I know there's no loyalties anywhere nowadays but still.

This could also be Fernando's shot for a third title.

This offseason just got real interesting.

Who knows. One thing is for sure...Mercs money can buy everything

Just think back on the Brazilian Interlagos rain ..
Max came back from P16 to P3 in no time , and that's where true driver skills shine in the rain !
We saw it also from Senna and Schumacher in the rain and they were legendary !
Max has this as well...In a Belgian interview he said , Yeah I got my driver license in Belgium but I don't give a shit about it because..I'm born to race" !

I can't knock his ability in a race car......he is one of the best ever.

But, as you say, he's become a monumental bell-end out of the car.

The trouble is he's constantly trying to be someone he just isn't....instead of just being his natural self.

ALO and HAM has bad history as team mates so I doubt Benz want to take the risk of pissing HAM off further, they probably look forward to and have put priority on a bit more harmony for a while which of course is a huge pity if ALO need to endure another year in the sh*t show called McLaren. Congrats and bye, bye ROS can't say I'll miss you.

My money's on Bottas. Williams would take the money and Bottas could use a higher profile drive and has already proven himself. Wehrlein and Ocon still aren't very reliable yet and Merc still wants the Constructor's win.

Bernie help us if "Crash"-donado ends up in there.

I would love to see Button out of retirement, but I don't think he has any interest.

From his tone, seems like he felt he owned his family, wife, and daughter too much when he's away. Not sure if its just a reason, or the competition next season.

But for some people, family comes first. And I do think he's going to be a great dad.

Agreed, probably the safest option for Mercedes. He has proven to be reliable and quick.
Bottas will likely win a few races and collect lots of points but will not undermine Hamilton's position.

Was shocked to read this the other day.

I really hope Jensen ends up in the seat. He deserves to be in a much better car than Honda/McLaren can provide!

He pretty much retired and it doesn't sound like he is interested in F1 anymore. Definitely not in it for the long term.

Quote:
"I go into this weekend thinking it's going to be my last race. I think that's the best way," Button said.

"At this moment in time, I don't want to be racing in F1 beyond this year."

"It is true that I have a contract in 2018 but at this moment in time I am not going to be racing in 2018.

"The whole point of this [contract for 2018] was if in three months' time I had eaten myself stupid and I changed my mind.

"But I don't want to go into this race thinking it's not my last race and it is."

I think Button's just tired of M/H overpromising and under delivering. The whole "I can't see myself racing in 2018" comment is basically him not believing that M/H can deliver him a competitive car and therefore giving up.

If Mercedes AMG come knocking, that may go out the window(I hope!)

He's the most veteran driver in the field. He's got a year on Kimi. I don't think Mercedes wants to fill their seat with someone who's career is done, and past his prime.

Seems like the previous 2 years, where he was beaten by HAM, took a lot out of him. So he was totally wrapped-up in being champion for 3 years straight, and I guess he decided that he'd stop if he won.
