Making offers these 3 M40i's

Hello,
New member here. As my post suggests, I'm currently on the hunt for either a '21 or '22 M40i. I have come across these 3 that have caught my eye.

1) https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...=myATCsavedcar

2) https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...details.xhtml? listingId=704342946&clickType=myATCsavedcar

3) https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...=myATCsavedcar

I have already chatted with the first dealer. I requested the CPO inspection sheet which they sent. Brakes pads are at 10/12 mm and tire tread is at 3/4mm which I think equates to roughly 3-4/32 out of 10/32 for OEM michelin. Sales rep said that's 60% left but I actually think that's more like 60/70% gone.

This would be my first BMW and would be using it for a spring/summer/fall car. Any input regarding value best deal for $$ would be appreciated. Would be trying to get $51-53K OTD including fees but it seems like dealers are not budging from listed price.

Cheers!

I like the first car. Both appear to have prices that are pretty much what you would expect and you aren't likely to find any great deals. I bought my CPO M40i about a year ago. The dealers will not budge. They know they will get what they are asking, especially as the weather gets warmer.

They are great little cars. You will not be disappointed. I absolutely hated the idea of putting it away for the winter, so I didn't. Fortunately, it only snowed twice and didn't last very long and I didn't have anywhere to go, anyway.

Welcome!

It looks like you found some good ones to take a run at. Even though option three has more miles, I prefer the red paint. Since it sounds like this will just be a nice weather car the additional miles may not matter so much. Good luck getting the price down this close to spring. The only downside to these cars as I see it is their rarity when trying to purchase one. After that is all sun up with the top down!

Looking forward to your updates and eventual purchase.

I’m leaning on door #3, the Red is nice. Looks like 2nd car was sold or link is broken.

The first car is being sold by a BMW dealer, so it should be a CPO and I also like the fact that it has low mileage!

The SFR it’s being sold by a Porsche dealer, so there is no CPO warranty. That is something you should be taking into consideration.

I'll vote for the first one. Slight bias here as it's the same colours as my car :-) IMHO a sports car can carry off bright colours.

The SFR has 10K more miles its a '22 vs White CPO 21 and even though it's not a CPO, it actually has 1 more month of factory warranty over the white one. My only issue with the SFR is the carfax lists that the car was first titled in May '22 and had its first oil change in April of 23 at 6K miles with no other service to date feel-could jeopardize a warranty claim (if oil is involved) possibly if no proof of oil change prior to 18K miles-Porsche dealer sales rep is tracking down infor for me. Also the OEM tires Michelin super sports were replaced with Conti Extreme Contacts which I believe are all seasons-may hinder handling?

First car is in Mississippi a bit of a challenge to fly to. Also weird is the dealer in Mississippi insists on collecting sales tax as an out state buyer-says its a BMW corporate thing-even on used cars. Just don't like having dealer handle this as an out of state buyer-to many things can go wrong

2 car is in MD quite a bit easier very easy for me to fly to and grab car. Porsche dealer in MD I just pay for the dealer doc fee and transit permit and I'm good to go and just register and pay sales tax in my own state.

Awhhh first world problems ..lol

You pay sales tax in the state you register the vehicle, not in the state you bought it. That's a scam.

I live in Illinois, just east of the Mississippi River, have bought several cars in Missouri (Ford, Mazda, MINI, BMW). In every case, they calculated and collected Illinois sales tax at the time of purchase, and registered the vehicle in Illinois for me. Unsurprisingly, they don't like to register my out of state vehicle unless I also finance with them but a little pressure will convince them.

You do have to be knowledgeable of what taxes and fees they should be collecting because they don't always calculate them correctly and you may struggle to get reimbursed for overpayment.

When purchasing my Z4, I overpaid registration fees by a little over $100. After several attempts to be reimbursed, I've given up on trying. However, I'll never do business, sales or service, from that dealer again and the finance associate is less than overjoyed of the review I wrote online.

It depends upon which tire is mounted.

The Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 is a good Max Performance Summer tire.

The Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus is a good Ultra High Performance All-Season tire.

There are some nearby states that will do that for you as a courtesy, but it is certainly not a requirement. If I lived in California and a dealer in Mississippi said they had to register the car I'd walk away.
