We've officially transitioned to rain in the Innsbruck area, complete with lightning and thunder. I'm still going to wear shorts most of the time though!

I just arrived in Interlaken(Switzerland) and the alps were extremely foggy/rainy, and some might say dangerous. I still had a blast but the rain never really gave me a chance today. heading to lake como tomorrow, hopefully my route will have some sunshine. safe travels

I hope this info helps others who are ready to head out on their ED as well. So if we can continue to share that would be great!

Hope the weather gets better for you! It's pretty much the same here in the Puget Sound.

Yeah, my Sixt driver indicated Munich was an abnormally rich area. Housing is 2-3x average like some places in the U.S. The number of expensive cars goes down as you get out of Munich. Lots of heads turning and people following on the highway for a while in my SO M3 so far. No compliments though...

So far I have done Munich, Innsbruck, Corvara (Dolomites), Malcesine (Lake Garda) and now in Milan. Not a single drop of rain so far been very hot but quite manageable. The highlight of my trip has been the Dolomites so far. Huge thanks to Dackelone and vonmayr for suggesting the route. Got some great pictures and GoPro feed.

For you guys who did the Swiss passes what should I be looking for? Is Furka out if raining? I don't particularly want to drive in the rain cuz it's no fun. And how cold does it get?

Thanks.

Side note: my car came with Michelins

Just got into Switzerland from Innsbruck area this afternoon. The main highway going west through the valley is 100% closed (both ways) for reconstruction at one junction and you have to do a funky detour that the nav took us around in circles once before we figured out it was fubar. Ended up with a nice detour through a tiny township with narrow streets, then drove into the construction area by following the nav again and ended up asking a guy in a bulldozer for directions (lol). Really friendly and understanding people in Austria, and they try hard even if you can't understand each other.

My wife and mother were in the car for the trip in the rain. Had a different kind of fun avoiding/controlling hydroplaning on standing water/streams flowing across the road. Not too much complaining from the ladies, but I was also taking it pretty easy in that kind of weather. The 18" PSS have plenty of grip in the wet as long as you don't step on a puddle.

I just drove through furka today and thought it was going to be and it was dry 75% of the time and the rest was just a bit misty.

drove through Klausen Pass and Susten Pass yesterday and was scared I was going to hydrolock somewhere up. it was extremely rainy/foggy but I just trucked forward and in hindsight I should've just skipped it. it was more stressful than fun.

driving through Albula Pass and San Bernardino tomorrow. hopefully it's sunny tomorrow.

note: damn it I got continentals. took delivery 8/31 you lucky bastard!

Thanks guys. Is there any place you can stop to get the latest weather advisory for the passes before you embark upon them?

My route is from como to Lugano to Gletch, Furka pass and then onto Interlaken. The next day I'll be driving from Interlaken to Zurich via the Susten Pass.

I've been getting the weather for my departing and destination towns via phone weather app when I'm on wifi, but in this case it was pretty obvious we were just going to be WET!

I think I used weather.com and looked for where the clouds were. some areas didn't pop up as cities so I just eye balled it. for the most part it'll be pretty wet.

I've already booked most of my hotels in advance which in hindsight was a mistake so I have to march forward with my itinerary with no plan B's

It's Europe/Germany... it's gonna rain. I am use to it now. And frankly I enjoy the rain now.

For me its the fog that's scary on some of those Alpine Passes. I still get the "chills" thinking back two years ago when a bunch of us drove up Gavia Pass in heavy rain and fog. That pass was so strange with plenty of guard rails at low altitude but at the middle and top parts absolutely nothing on the side of those narrow roads - to keep you from going off! THAT was a day to remember. And now... its one of the fondest memories of that trip.

I think this depends on your personality type. I always tell people to just get in the car and DRIVE. It really helps to be flexible in where and how much ground you can cover. But some people(types) have to KNOW where they will be staying for the night. For me... I always enjoy the adventure more... when its a surprise - where I will end up.

TheFlyingMouse and dsm918 I'm glad I could help you guys plan your ED. As always feel free to hit me up for any tips or suggestions.

As for the weather... one should know that up in the Alps(or even Germany) the weather can & will change as you go up in altitude. Generally speaking... this happens at 500m, 700m, and 1,500 meters(and above). I remember one March morning staying over night at the base of Stelvio(at Francesca's Post Hotel in Trafoi) and it was -14'C!!! I had lots of ice on my windshield! But I drove just 12 kms North and the temps were in the +7'C range. I drove another 30kms and the temps were in the 12'C So it can really get cold up in the mountains at night.
