that guy is ridiculous. i saw it too. letting up with 10 meters to go and pumping his fist on his chest. i thought at first that he was really arrogant and then when he talked he seemed like a very happy go lucky kind of guy, proud to win a medal for his country.

No doubt he is fast, but he lets his big ego gets in the way. Yes, he broke the WR but he could have smashed the record even more had he not showboat at the end of the race and continue ahead with more steam to get to the finish line faster.

I think he is too young to realize he could have both a gold medal and a never seen before time that will stay in the record book for a long time but he was not thinking. Maybe he will wise up a little in the 200m and keep his composure and concentrate on setting the best time ever.

Do you know that every time he breaks the world record he gets more money from the sponsors? So from that point of view I think it is a smart move not to raise the bar high and set your best time. Remember what Sergey Bubka did in late 80's and early 90's. He knew he was in his own class and kept on breaking the reecord.

Drugs? ...Well being a Jamaican and setting two world records in the fastest T&F events so far, I can surely say that he is not on Ganja, at least

The Jamaican track team in general is entering into a golden age. Expect to seem them destroying the competition in the next few years. The women's team is extremely fast as well. They swept the 100m final with 1 gold and tied for 2 silvers.

They're not on drugs, the culture down there is just heavily focused on running. If you're fast you're a superstar in Jamaica.

+1

And it's not like he lost a chance to set a WR by letting up towards the end. He set a new WR on the way to Olympic Gold, so all the speculation around "how much faster could he have gone?" seems a bit moot to me.

He is obviously capable of going faster, so in all probability he will set more WRs in the near future, generating more publicity for his sport and possibly endorsements for himself (good for him). He's just not as lucky as Bubka to be able to (literally) raise the bar by 1 cm each time

Is there any way we can get those who do not make it to Osafa Powell or Usain Bolt's level to be drafted into cricket and asked to emulate Courtney Walsh and Michael Holding?

I am there with you man. I have been a long time follower of WI cricket. From the glory days of Viv Richards, Clive Loyd...I don't knwo when they will get their acts together.

You know, I haven't seen a good cricket game in a LOOONNGG time. I don't think it's a different crowd that get attracted to cricket vs. track and football/soccer.

Ben Johnson had the same time in Seoul in 1988. So Bolt is either on drugs or it took 20 years for the sprinter athletes to recover from that train wreck.

I sincerely hope he is clean.

I am sorry you are wrong.
Ben Johnson ran the 100m in 9.79 and Bolt did that in 9.69.
As for he is on drug, man give the credit where it deserves. When Ben Johnson ran the 100m in that time we knew right away that some thing is wrong. He was no where near Carl lewis leading up to the race and then he pulls that time out of no where. Bolt every one was already talking about him and how fast he is etc.

Yep they do. It is part of the sponsor ship deal what they get from Puma (in Bolt's case) Nike or Speedo (Michael Phelps). It is more publlicity for them.

Yes, Bolt is insane. Now he holds 2 world records.

He just turned 22 today!

BTW, I heard that if Phelps won 7 gold medals, he was going to get 1 million...8 golds....5 million.

I haven't found anything to confirm this, but this is the rumor...

The IOC President has publicly commented on Bolt's lack of sportsmanship after last nights win.
