Yeah, I leave it down most of the time. If I was going to a restaurant or something like that I will put it up.
Picture I just put up for the Unicorn is typical. Was at the food store. Have owned at least one convertible since 1960.

Now we are onto a topic!!
Thea leaves me in a cold sweat here in the U.K. My only prior experience was the MX5 and manual roof. Only at a friends house or home woudl I leave her topless. Too risky for me! The future Z. It’s even easier to put the top up down with the fob…. So just my personal expectation I will almost never leave topless.

I don’t have a problem leaving the top down when running errands just like others. Indeed, I’d just put the top up because of weather, or parked for a period in an ‘unknown’ location.

I almost always put the top up when parked unless it's for less than 10 minutes and in my own driveway, my main fears are pollen and bird droppings.

I sometimes park top-down for quick trips in my locality - let's face it, it's pretty cool to walk up to a sleek car like the Z4 with its top down - but I put the top up if I leave the car unattended for a while or if there's a lot of dust in the air (springtime pollen comes to mind).

When leaving the Z4 press the lock button on the Keyfob then within 10 seconds press it again. You can confirm the red LED on the front of the mirror flash RED for 2 seconds and then go into its 1/sec flash rate. This disables the interior alarm. It also allows opening the trunk (but maybe only once). I use this when parking in my garage so it will allow me to place things in the passenger seat or some other interior event. |

I tend to put the top up no matter how long I am away from the car. I am worried about dirt/dust, bird droppings, etc. I had a car previously (not a convertible) that I left with all the windows down when I went into a store. Came back out and apparently a bird found its way in the car and used my sterring wheel as its personal restroom. SInce then, I never leave anyhting open while I am not in the car.

My top is down at home in the garage and I leave top down at most places I go unless there is a threat of rain (from November to May we get little rain and have blue empty skies many days. I would like to have a dash cam/radar detector mounted but I wouldn't risk that since they could be easily stolen (happened to me years ago). I only mount Radar for longer highway rides.
Leaving door unlocked is not a bad idea even with top up. My Suzuki Samurai top was slashed to steal nothing.

My top goes up whenever I’m away from the car. I don’t leave the top down even in my garage.

In relatively safe areas, I leave the top down if I plan to be away for an hour or less, no chance of rain, and if conditions aren't dusty and pollen levels are low.
In the garage, the top is always closed to minimize dust in the interior and also to minimize the setting of creases on the soft top material. |
