I am not surprised the GTS is favored as the "pure driver's car". That is probably still true. Even as an "S" version the Boxster will easily cost $15k above a fully equipped Z4 M40i as you literally pay for anything extra. Not to talk maintenance cost. Then you get a great driver's car with a cockpit that's 5+ years old in tech (feels even older).

Exactly why I leased mine, lol. I would totally switch to the new Z4 if it only came with a manual. I can take that its less of a driver's car, but I really just want a Z4 M40i w/ a 6-speed, I don't care how good the auto is, the engagement of a manual is what I love, sadly, we are a small group of people these days

Although I am pretty much done watching reviews at this point, especially those that take a car from the dealership and go through each option in excruciating detail, this was actually fun to watch! Because he goes into the more obscure things - didn’t know you could set the temp at which the seat warmers come on - and that setting is in Celsius only!

Agree... and first one I've see showcasing the auto-lock by walking away and lock by simply walking toward the car. Took folks long enough to modify comfort access with that...I like that a lot.

He's pretty positive throughout on a # of items...but then his grading is fairly harsh. Not sure I agree w/ his Doug Score across the board

I couldn't agree more. Doug is positive and really likes the car throughout but then gives it a few low points. I too think he was harsh in certain categories. He usually can be counted on for solid car reviews.

This was actually a helpful review given I have no access to the owner's manual yet. There is so much tech in the car now that I will need some study time to fully leverage its capabilities.

In other news: my M40i finished production today!!

Nice German...!

My other thought, and again, Doug is pretty thorough...he pokes fun of the "hole" in the seat (where neck warmer should be and may be in future revisions!)...he basically called it useless, for style.

But I think your back will appreciate the bit of air that will filter through that w/ the top down on hot days up against the leather seat. I think it is still functional...on hot days.

Ha... yes and on cold days you will curse that hole...

I got really lucky with my BMW Genius because not only was this guy a BMW god but he freakin loves the Z4. He set up my car perfect and now I will be able to use and understand all the new tech to it's fullest capabilities.

The time spent with him was worth every minute. I highly recommend it.

Anything ‘new’ such as the walk to/walk away lock/unlock feature? Anything like that...or that you’d otherwise pull out from your visit and share?

Driver profiles on iDrive 7 are different from previous iDrive 6. On my Z4 M40i you need to have a different driver profile on each key and each profile needs a separate ConnectedDrive account. You can't use the same profile on two keys unless you log in each time with username and password or set up a four digit PIN code. Took me quite a while to work this one out.
You can, of course, use the Guest profile on any key without having to log in. And it remembers your settings.

Hello BMW Personal Assistant
If you allow upload to Nuance, the speech recognition is really good (I have got a German accent...).
