Critical Safety Recall G29’s

So,
Has anyone heard from BMW RE; a critical safety recall!?

I understand it affects the track rod ends of some sort. Over on another forums there’s a few cars affected, mostly the M40i it seems and one member has posted
Quote:
On the vehicle inspection report it states, QE 10032140300 it needs AT track rod repair kit reference QE sheet, which is marked in red as urgent, the highest category.
Heading to the BMW Recall Info page and entering my VIN I get this;

So it appears to link.

Rumours say there are no parts in the UK for this as yet and being a critical safety recall BMW will not return your vehicle to you if you drop it in for investigation/repair even if they don’t have the parts available.

Check yours out (UK Users can enter registration on this page

I don’t know anymore, MY, model etc. as yet but would be interested if anyone has heard or knows more

So speaking to a very helpful guy, Lewis, from a local dealership he hadn’t heard of any recall so was interested to hear the QE code and then when found it is on their system as a recall as of the 26th June
He read to me what it said;

Quote:
“steering track rods may break due to increased vibration due to excess temperatures, replace both and carry out steering alignment”
He went on to say under the safety aspect it states;

Quote:
“Steering rods have been shown to break when tested under circumstances of recall. If a break occurs this would result in catastrophic loss of complete vehicle control”
The joke is when he then said that the earliest they could replace would be the 26th July or the 28th if I wanted a hire car 😂🤔

I f you read the NHTSA pdf it says 1050 Z4 30i cars recalled. Manufactured between NOV 05, 2018 - FEB 26, 2019.

My 30i was built in March '19 and no recall showing.

This is the dates for US cars only I would assume.

Thanks for flagging this - it says mine's affected.

I thought the dealers were supposed to contact us about these things

So the Z4 manufactured cars for the US are different from the ones sold in Europe ?
Thats something I read somewhere.
Or
Since the link provided in previous post is from the UK. Maybe the UK recalls updates are not linked to the US NHTSA recalls.
Happened to me before with American cars that I owned in Europe, NHTSA recalls in the US that nobody at the dealers here knew about.

It appears, after reading the PDFs, that my car is outside of the affected build dates hence no recall.

My M40i is on the recall list as well. Built in March 2019.

Update:
After checking with the dealer today (July 6th) it seems that my car is not affected after all. Z4 G29 cars built during the period 5 Nov 2018 and 26 Feb 2019 are affected. My car was built early March 2019.

Possible the rack and pinion/tie rod ends are shipped as a unit, since UK cars are right hand drive I assume they use different racks and thats why different models and production dates on US vs UK spec cars.

Maybe

Really? I'd be a bit surprised if a car built this month had reached the UK yet!

I had mine replaced yesterday, as part of a minor service. 2019 2.0
I would like to tell you how much it affected the drive handling but the car won't work at all now (see Gremlins thread)
