Scratched cerium grey wheel

Just wondering if anyone has experience of repairing cerium grey wheels? I've got a small but noticeable scratch in one of mine (on the painted surface) and my dealer is saying it's unrepairable without repainting and diamond cutting the whole wheel, which seems a bit over the top.

Apparently it can't be polished out because the lacquer is matt. Seems a bit stupid but tbh not much surprises me when it comes to alloys.

First Bummer on the wheel scratch :-(. When I had my 4-Series Gran Coupe, I had a few wheel scratches. There are wheel repair shops that can do a great job resurfacing the wheel. Google search your wheel repair for your area.

Thanks. There's a couple of places near me but I'd prefer a dealer repair really. Otherwise, any problem (eg hub corrosion) and they say "oh, it looks like you've had the wheel refurbed".

No they didn't say anything when I turned the lease in.

Dealer would most probably just contract it out and up charge you.

I'm not thinking so much of when I hand the car back, but when I get the inevitable white worm and I want new wheels under warranty. They'll take any excuse to avoid replacement.

These scratches can be really frustrating. I feel bad for you.
Thanks. The dealer actually managed to repaint just the scratched area without having to recut so it turned out ok on this occasion.

Just realised they haven't replied to my email. I'll give them a call tomorrow and report back.

Thanks. It looks fine. No point posting pics at the moment as the wheels are a bit dirty, but I'll put some up if I get round to washing it this weekend.

Hey Zeds, sorry to resurrect an old post but any chance you can share your end result pics? My interest as this thread came up during a search I did on repairing Cerium Grey wheels; my 2021 M340i got all four wheels scratched by the dealer and I'm really unsure whether its properly repairable... if you're interested, my thread post is here ->

Hi Nick

Unfortunately I didn't take any pics after repair and I haven't got the car any more. I was happy with the result though. Just to give you an idea of what the issue was, this is the "before" photo. As far as I know, they just painted the scratched section rather than the whole wheel.

Thanks Zed.

By being happy with it, I'm guessing you mean you couldn't tell a difference in either the cerium grey colour and the satin finish? Or was one slightly less perfectly matching than the other?

To me it looked like it had never been scratched. Bear in mind though, that bit of the wheel is always at a different angle to the rest so any slight difference in shade or finish will not be obvious. Your situation is a bit different but I'd still say let them have a go and if you're not happy with the outcome you should be in a strong position to push for new wheels.
