Remote Roof Open/Close
Hi guys, picked up my new Z4 today and I absolutely love it. One thing I did not realise was that you need the comfort access package to be able to operate the roof via the key.
Can the key be coded to enable this feature? I've seen this but there appears to be no info whether the remote roof open/close can be coded for the new Z4. https://www.mycarly.com/ Here's a video of a guy who coded it for his older Z4: |

As noted, if you have Comfort Access, then you have full operation of the top and windows with your remote. Comfort Access comes standard on the M40i and is a $1450 option on other models. (USA models)

I have comfort access in my F33 but I have to be next to the car and I have to hold the button down and wait. With SmartTop, I just click three times and can be a distance from the car and it will open or close the top or windows (two clicks)

I ordered the smartTop module. Should have it Friday. Looks promising.
Based on all I know about coding the tops from the F32, BMW killed the ability to close via remote in later ISTEPs from like mid-2015 or 2016 on. Assuming its the same in my 2020 G29, as I performed all the "usual" coding, but it doesn't work ... so for $420 its not worth my time trying to figure it out (given that it even exists) |

It also was in my 2011 E89 I did add the smart module in my 2009 E89 and it worked great

I ordered the module so 1. I don't have to hold the button the entire duration of open/close process while in-car & 2. so i can operate open/close at full distance of the remote control range. |

smart top module is indeed available for new z4. If you want the top to work at a far distance this is a must. From factory your top will only work if your close to the car. Its a must have for me. You pull up to a spot, get out of car, hit the button and walk away. Top goes up by itself. There is a range limit from the factory for safety reasons. Smart top bypasses this. Of course there's other features as well. One touch open or close. No reason to hold switch in car for ten seconds. Remote windows and mirrors also from afar. Many more. Worth the 500 bucks for sure. (silly hack) detach key from remote, put a clothes pin on remote and throw it in car and walk away. Your top will go up and car will lock as you walk away. Works for sure, but of course just for a laugh.

Absolutely is a must for operation from range, or one-touch interior operation. I received mine on Friday and installed it in about 20 minutes. The included directions are spot-on (with the exception of indicating the size Torx bit needed (T35) to remove the 2 anchors, but now you know the size).
