M Performance Exhaust

I was wondering if a G20 3 series M performance exhaust would fit a G29 Z4? The engines are the same however I am unsure if the length of the exhaust itself would fit. Its upsetting that BMW doesn't really have any parts in regards to M performance for the new Z4.

There are several performance exhausts available for the G29 Z4. Here are a couple:

Car already comes with a performance exhaust. Just code the diverter valve always open it you want more noise.

Or unplug it? My M4 is unplugged open and I really like it that way.

Have no idea. Had to code the 440 to stay open just unplugged the 435 & 335IS Coupe. Z4 is just past break-in & have been doing a 5th year upgrade on the COBRA which is absorbing all my car play time, no pun intended.

I have not done anything with the Z4 other then replace the tower struts, about 10 minutes work

To get back on topic, no, the m340i exhaust is longer and will not line up with the Z4. Even though they share the same engine, the exhaust pipe routing is different.

Not saying it can't be modified to fit, it wouldn't be as easy as adjusting clamps. Pipes would need to be cut/bent/flared/fitted to adjust the input pipe, as well as the tail pipe locations so they line up with the rear fascia. By the time you buy the MPerformance exhaust and having it modded and fitted (plus the time to do all that), you'd be better off buying one of the ones already fitted for the Z4.

If you're looking to convert to a quad pipe exhaust instead of the trapezoid looking ones, you can save a ton of money and have a reputable exhaust shop chop the rear tail pipes off the exhaust and add a quad tip layout. They can even eliminate the exhaust valve doing this (or include it if you prefer) and it'd be maybe a few hundred at most (not the $2k+ of these pre-made ones). Benefit of this is that the exhaust stays welded throughout and you won't have an exhaust leak anywhere (slip on exhausts are notorious for this.

Like someone else mentioned, the exhaust is already a "performance exhaust," but if you're looking to get louder or a different note, try what others have suggested.
1) Put the car in sport mode and unplug the exhaust valve.
2) Change the downpipe to a sport cat (or catless if you don't mind the exhaust smell).
3) Have an exhaust shop remove the middle silencer(s) from the midpipe.
4) Buy an axle-back exhaust (you'll have to cut the muffle from the midpipe with a saws-all). Have an exhaust shop weld it up after.
5) Buy a full cat-back kit. Have an exhaust shop weld it up after.

2+3 can be interchanged as they cost similarly. But the above range from cheapest to most expensive. The weld up is a suggestion as exhaust leaks will make the exhaust have a hiss that doesn't sound "good"

Where did you unplug it? Had one that unplugged in the trunk behind the left rear lining. The other unplugged at the left side exhaust. Had to bag & tape the plug.

Noticed this valve is on the right side

Isn't the one in the trunk for ASD and not exhaust itself?

Thanks Joe and everyone for all of your suggestions. One last question, does anyone know of a cold air intake for the B48 Z4?

Not on the car in question. Line ran from the trunk to the valve control. Looked to be the break point between the valve & the cars main rear harness was a connector just behind the stoplight.

So far one at the muffler, one in the trunk & one coded open. Coding does not work well on the Z4 so am looking where to make the valve control disconnect.

For the m40i, the plug is on top of the valve.
Easily accessed from under the car without needing to lift it.

I see that they only offer for the M40i, not sure if these would also work for the 30i. I know i'm still a ways away from being able to do mods on my car, but i'm already looking.

Thanks, but not too sure what I would do with the extra 3HP.

The Akrapovic exhaust is taking from 4 to 6 months just to get to the USA.

Quad Exhaust

If BMW would just do for the Z4 M40i what it did for the M4 they would nail it. Hopefully before the Z4 fades away they'll come to their senses and put a proper exhaust on the car.

It wouldn't be for any sort of performance boost... more so for cosmetic appeal. 40i is lucky enough to have good lookin exhaust tips. 30i's are kinda bland. My idea is to replace them with something with a carbon fiber look to it along with some additional carbon fiber additions.

I can understand, but my preference is for added performance.
