That's good news. Should mean the 997 won't be the last manual and prices won't sky rocket and I might be able to afford one!

Was going to say where does that leave the 911 R but I guess it's just a limited run car. Confusing strategy though. Why buy the 911 R in manual if you know the GT is going back to manual.

^ This

I've always loved the 997 GT3 compared to 991 GT3 - esp the 997.2 GT3

Won't skyrocket but still increase in price. Two things the 997 GT3 had going for it was the manual transmission and the the Mezger engine. That brilliant engine is still going to command a premium.

From what I've seen the 991 gt3 is significantly faster than 997 on track.

Do 997.1 GT3 have piston bore-score issues?

From my understanding, the GT1 Mezger engine does not suffer the same scoring issues found on the M96/7 engines. I don't see scoring to be a widely publicized issue with the subsequent 9A1 engine either. The Mezger engine is widely held to be bullet-proof. Aside from failure of the adhesive used to attach the coolant pipes on the 3.6L Mezger, they are an extremely reliable for an engine that turns 9,000 RPMs.

You also forgot - to a lesser degree - hydraulic steering vs. EPS.

Having had both 997 & 991 GT3s, the 991 certainly has the true spirit of a GT3. It is a GT3. I like it far more than the 997. However, my friend who has my old 997 GT3 disagrees with me completely

I grew up on manual cars, and still prefer them in general for the fun experience they offer.

I had both generations in my current stable, I'm not sure which one I'd drive more. But I will say the 991 is certainly more capable, and the 9k redline brings a whole new element of fun to the driving experience (metzger or not)! Not to mention I'm FAR faster on track.

Being smoked by a Nissan GT-R on track in the 997 GT3 was no fun... no longer a concern in the 991. And yes, faster does = more fun on track in this particular case.

All that being said, I certainly would love to have a 911 R! Begging the dealers currently...

The electric steering in the GT3 is second to none. I'd say it's one of the strong points of the car.

The electric steering in the M4 is quite disappointing by comparison. (just my opinion, not trying to start an internet war)
