Had some clown on instagram arguing with me that the Supra vents were functional and all you had to do was replace the stock caps. "I'm A MecHanIC!" he says...

I'm like... dude... they may serve a FUNCTION, but work needs to get put into it. You need to cut pannels. Like the one in the door for instance. That just leads to the door jam, you gotta CUT to make that functional.

IIRC, when the GR Supra first released, some reviewers pointed out the fake vents and a Toyota rep said or hinted that there would be future models where the vents were functional.

Definitely agree that the fake vents are a bit of an eyesore on what I think is a good looking car otherwise.

Still waiting for one of those hi-po Supra models to drop!

I am on the don't put slots & scoops on a car if they are fake team....not a happy camper the engine vents on the M4C are fake.

Absolutely! I've always been in this camp. First time I really took note of fake vents was around 2000. At the time I was deciding between a Toyota Celica or Mustang. Mustang had a gaudy fake hood and side vents. Asked the dealer... what's the point? No answer of course. Scoop on the celica was at least functional. lol I chose the Celica.

That wasn't the reason behind my choice of the Z4 over the Supra though. Mostly it was brand and convertible. I couldn't stand by getting another Toyota. I liked the oomph that comes with saying I drive a BMW. I also love the top down freedom.

I discovered my twin parked beside me upon my return from the Scott AFB Commissary today. The photo shows a decent representation of the difference between the standard soft top and my Moonlight Black soft top.

It looks like the moonlight soft top shows less wrinkles than the standard.

Have had only one all black out of 4 convertibles. Its on my Z4 that I bought off the floor just as the pandemic started to close out production.

Was the only change to what I was prepared to order. Took the shot so I have been driving it since March 2020.

Its a very good top just not worth saving the $250 over the moonlight.

67k miles, now, and I definitely see some wear marks and creasing. Pretty sure that I saw the creasing early on, within a year, but hasn't really gotten worse. The wear spots, while apparent to me, aren't too bad. Will get Moonlight top again, but still struggling with color choice for next one.

Still see more Supras than Z4 by a large factor. Daily driver in HOU, and rarely see one of us. (Oh, and about to have my 4th windshield installed in a few days---eff HOU road debris and falling crap that seems to target my glass--but thankfully only my glass).

Seeing the difference is making me rethink the roof when I trade up to M40i.

Does the moonlight roof reduce the sun heat absorption into the cabin by a significant amount compared to the regular roof?

Good idea on the new moonlight roof topic.

Regarding heat absorption, I have no idea, hadn't even contemplated that. I doubt if it makes a significant difference but, having some silver in it, I'd think it would reflect some amount of sunlight from the interior (and absorb less heat).

Have one of each. Very strong summer sun here & don't notice any difference. Thing to remember is the top has a outer piece and an inner piece unlike the old USA convertibles.

Don't know if there is any insulation between the inner & outer panels
