No dog in the debate. Have a touch screen but never really use it. Don't like having to lean across, reach for it & look at it to effect a change.

Like the round thingie on the console to run the middle screen. Can make changes without any extra effort.

I think the HUDs will still be available on the M40i, just not the sDrive30i. This also tracks with what you can "build" on the BMW web site. You can build an M40i with a HUD but you can't build an sDrive30i with one.

I tend to agree with you. I don't really think I care if the touchscreen goes away, I had no intention of using it anyway. My OCD would never allow me to see all those smudges on the screen. The center console controller is all I will ever need.

As for the smudges I keep a small micro fiber cloth in the glove compartment which also comes in handy for cleaning the dust from the dashboard and the black high gloss trim in the interior.

I added film. Prints don't really show. Using the nav & find touch simplest input method.

Film is a good idea. What film did you use?

I usually just add the location to my phone and then when I get into the car I can pick contacts and select the new address.

Hah! I keep a microfiber rag in my cabin too to get dust off, smudges and while inside the windshield. San Antonio is very dusty so I’m always wiping down the interior.

Be careful with the microfiber, it can also scratch the screen if the dust is got sand. Cleaning it first with a brush is safer.
When I clean the inside, I use a brush and a scuba tank which Is good to blow off anything from the carpets, air vents, etc.
3000 psi doesn't live any dust. A 100 psi compressor painting equipment might also work.

The new screens on Z4s will not offer touchscreen capability with a $500 credit applied. Also, Backup Assistant will not be available.

Bells and whistles are taking a beating!

Can you get to the CarPlay screen without touching the display?

(Other then navigating to the phones submenu (forgot what it is called) or shortcut button?

You can do anything with the dial by the shifter.

Yes, just talk about cumbersome and having to take your eyes off the road to get there the long way vs just touching the screen once.

I just had a thought regarding CarPlay, can't you ask Siri to perform functions in the other CarPlay apps aside from just making calls and sending Apple text messages and Whatsapp messages which I do all of the time in my Z4 and my wife's 228i?

I have Siri, Alexa, and the BMW voice control enabled.

Siri is used to play music, answer phone, send txt messages.
Alexa is used for things like "Alexa, what is the weather for tomorrow"
I use the BMW voice control just to impress first timers in the car. An example would be, "Zelda, turn on the passenger seat heater" (Zelda being the wake word that I set up).
