Rear Wheels Slipping During Acceleration

Starting to get a little annoyed that whenever i punch it or even go from 1st to 2nd that the rear wheels slip some. Anyone else dealing with this? Setting that I'm missing? Would have a hard time believing my wheels are too bare already after just 6 months.

I have not had that problem, and have 12000 miles on the odometer starting in June 2020.

How many miles do you have on the tires?

I noticed a little slipping on hard acceleration until the eLSD kicks in.

I noted I had a little more slipping and attributed it to colder weather and a drop in tire pressure. I pumped them back up to 32psi and it appeared to help. Could just be confirmation bias…

Happens frequently with my Z4, the Pilot Super Sports are pretty hard unless they warm up and the road surface is semi-warm i.e., summer weather.

Less than 7000 miles. Yes, mostly when i'm punching it. Will happen for a second or two. Very annoying... especially if I give it gas while turning and then shift.

I think that’s what 369 feet pounds of torque gets you. I think there are a lot of people who wish their cars could lay rubber going into second.

A safe way to learn what your car will do under various conditions is to autocross. BMW CCA puts on autocross events in your area. They usually also have car control clinics once or twice a year. Both will help you with the issues you are having on the road without putting you or your car in danger.

Even on straight aways, if i punch it, the rear wheels slip a little almost like i'm spinning my wheels or torque steering.

With the cold weather here (30->50f) I’ve noticed a lot more rear wheel slippage. Most of my driving has been short runs, so there may not be time for them to warm up. I will also work on my knitting…

Summer Tires

The OEM tires are really only for summer driving. Once the temps drop into the 40's the tires harden and lose their grip. They can also be damaged. So says the manufacturer- I'm just the messenger!

I replaced my Michelin PSS tyres with PS4's after 13000 miles and I much prefer the latter. The car feels far more compliant.

I went with all-season Michelins prior to a trip out west and high altitude low temp driving. They've been great - comfortable ride, low noise, excellent grip, lower cost and longer life. I'm never tracking the car so a few tenths of a second faster isn't important.

The PS4 is the new version of the PSS. I had both on an Audi S4 and loved them

Micheline AS3 by any chance? I've also had those. They give up a little over the PS4 but not much and lasted much longer. I put the AS3s on my S4 in winter as the PS4s usually just lasted me the warmer months.

Back in the 60's and 70's there was the Esso Oil Company and the just of their slogan was "We put a tiger in your tank every time you fill up with Esso gasoline / petrol".

In the same vein, BMW has put a big tiger in that there B58 I6 engine of theirs.
