New Map Update 2023

Anyone else get the 01/23 map update installed?

hi all,
I initially made a mistake as the download of the update was taking so long (30+ GB) and had never used the update manager before. it turns out I had to repeat it the next day and be patient. The updater does a verification step and then wants you to coonect the USB drive.
I used a 128GB microsd card in a reader so it took a while but the exFAT file system was recognised and the manager unzipped files onto it.(30 minutes of unpacking)
In the car it was recognised and took around 30 minutes to complete (while I was travelling somewhere.) seems up to date now.

So my intial problem of the download package not being seen was because I had not followed the procedure and thought the zipfile archive was enough for the update.
hopefully this message will help others who struggled so far.

Good info. In my '22 s30i, I don't believe I have the ability to update the maps from USB, perhaps a difference between the US and other countries. As far as I know, all map updates are done over the air to my vehicle.

Where do you find the map update version?

Looks like that they just pushed out the 2023-4 version for the NA maps.

I'm in the UK and I only ever get over the air map updates. Seems to work well.

That makes me wonder if they switched to OTA when they eliminated the internal hard drive. IIRC, some earlier G29 models (2018-2020?) had the hard drive but I'm unsure when it was discontinued. Those with internal hard drives also have the ability upload their music to it in addition to storing maps.

I just got a message today that my maps were updated. I guess you just have to wait long enough and it just happens…

The OEM maps are still behind, there is a new phase development near me that has been built now for over a year, on OEM Nav it still shows it as a grey patch lol.

Google and Apple Maps update quickly/constantly being cloud based.

You might be on to something there. I can upload music to my car, and it's an earlier model.
