Stupid question
I understand you have to pay for CarPlay. I also think you can’t use android auto. I do not plan on paying for a yearly subscription. I always had an Android phone. My question is do I have any other options. The only thing I use is music and the navigation system

In my opinion, the BMW nav works fine and I load music from USB flash drives to the car's HDD and this works well me. Don't have to pay for anything.

First year is free too (at least in the UK) so a free trial at least then see how you get on, worth it etc etc

If it helps I am an iPhone user have CarPlay in my Jeep and love it. However I much prefer the bmw setup and nav. I stream Apple Music or pandora. Plus after a year you have to pay for it. WTF? Carplay is nice but you're not missing anything.

I saw CarPlay as a nice gimmick in my other cars that I almost never used. I am actually warming up to the wireless connection. But yes - the BMW system is pretty good. Still nice to have Waze in background or interact with Siri or screen for messages.

The BMW system and Carplay work great hand in hand I have found. I will have Waze open but use nav from BMW so I get it in the heads up display but Waze will chime in if any issues. You can also hit the button on the steering wheel ONCE for the BMW assistant (e.g. "what is weather in Norden California" or wherever you are going but hold it in longer to get Siri (for things like "read text messages", "Spotify play Led Zeppelin", etc). Two voice assistants give you full gambit of help when driving which I am finding to be a huge positive after last 2 cars had tech from the Stoneage….

I did also try to add Echo Car but that didn’t work out so well for me. Got an email a couple weeks ago advising that there is new firmware and to try it again. Probably won’t or maybe if I am bored over the holidays, maybe try Echo Auto in my winter car. |
