thank jean, yes GTR, light painted with an ikea lamp !! i had this shot in mind ever since the owner told me to shoot his car. i believe it was an 8 or 10 seconds exposure and i walked over the car with the lamp careful not to expose the side of it. only thing done in post was to remove the lamp line over the car, although it looked kind of cool, like it was in a wind tunnel

The Dark Side Of The Moon

The moon was beautiful tonight. Not full; but so clear and bright that I went out and shoot it (even if its freezing cold)

This was shot maybe 15 minutes ago.

Always love those lightning shots. I've never taken one, but really want to try my hand at it. Yours are an inspiration, very cool!

I have read that the trick is long exposure to capture lightning - is this true?

yeap. long exposure but with a shutter release so you can release it as soon as the lightning strikes. otherwise it ill be gone. and luck!

there was a massive one when we where headed to that spot, never seen anything like it, the the storm when farther into the sea and that was all that i could get.

Far better in color IMO

For your lightning, I would try it continuous mode with 15 sec. expositions and hold the button on your remote release so it stays in continuous mode. I've never shot any tho; but with programmed settings like this, you pretty much get all of them without having to stress about the risk of missing any. You can even extend the exposure and fill the sky with a couple cracks and create that surreal effect of a crazy electrical storm.

I did it last summer on my D7000 coupled with my promote control under time lapse mode with 1 sec. wait between each shot at a firework show this summer; but went overboard with 30 sec. expositions; which was too much:

What was cool (for fireworks) is that you dont spend the whole show looking through the viewfinder. You set it, and forget it. I have to do it again, but with 15 sec. expositions; then 10 when it gets more intense and even 5 seconds for the finale.

@panicos81 thanks for the info, and MaximusJ for your suggestion.

I prefer the lighting shot in color, because with B&W,it seems to lose the dramatic deep purplish hues created by the lighting. Also, in the B&W version, right side spot with the heavy light looks blown out, but looks perfect in the color version.

^^ Agreed. Also, b&w removes the electric spark effect that the color creates.

1/60th will get you something like a nebula.

Panicos, you have noise in your B/W. Try increasing it also for that "old world" look

My moon shot. Just ran out and shot this tonight. Handheld with the 70-300L and Kenko 2x converter. Maybe a tad overexposed.

The moon is quite bright, so you need around -1EV with most lenses.

Nice and sharp.
