Instrument cluster without enhanced features
The 25' g29 manual has a few pages describing same. Looks like the good old analog cluster. Can you tell me what the BMW P/N of it is and if anybody managed to have it installed by swapping out the hideous digital one? Thanks!

I haven’t seen anyone post that they’ve done this. With the being said, you can turn on a “reduced mode” that gets rid of a lot of the extra digital stuff and just gives you speed and the tach.

Interesting thing. Back when BMW was migrating from analog to digital some of the 3/4 series 2018 analog dashes were not analog.
They were an optional digital representations of the analogs.

Anything would be better than the moronic tach dial moving counterclockwise. Even a piece of plywood would be better.

You get used to it, then it's a non-issue.

One of the Z4 reviews I read before I got mine said the same thing about the reverse tach, but it's never bothered me even knowing that based on the reviewer's distaste for it, I was not supposed to like it.
IMO, It's an easy to read gauge to tell you the instantaneous rotational speed of the engine within a given operating range. There's nothing inherently special about digitally simulated round, clockwise gauges beyond that many manufacturers still ape old, mechanical designs. You'll get used to the new tach pretty quickly. |

This is definitely a case of different strokes for different folks as I like my display.

It will continue to look more and more dated as the years roll by. This style cluster is now 5-6 years old? Just as a comparison take a look at the Z8, it’s analog but IMO the gauges look classy and not as dated as one would expect for a car a over coupe decades old….the most dated part of that interior is the Atari grade radio graphics. |

Ditto this.
Was even thinking of getting a 2024 X3 M40i, as it has ID7, before the “upgraded” 2025 X3 comes out with ID9 and virtually no physical controls. Thankfully this trend towards all glass cockpits may have reached its peak: https://www.hagerty.co.uk/articles/n...ttons-says-eu/ I think some of the difference of opinion has to do with why someone buys a particular car in the first place. The latest tech is usually hopelessly outdated within a few years, especially the most cutting edge and expensive features. But if you buy or lease a new car every few years and want the latest and greatest, this is a feature rather than a bug. A new Z4 with older ID7 is a problem in this context. But for buyers who prioritize driving experience over tech, and possibly want to hang on to their vehicles for an indefinite amount of time, I think the lack of any bleeding edge tech or features is a virtue. Not sure I understand the comparison with the Z8 - no current BMW has an interior like the Z8 as that car was built as a styling homage rather than a tech showcase. And it cost $128k, which works out to north of $200k today. Quote:

Wife got an X3 over an X1 primarily because of this. Preferred the size of the X1 since it’s just the two of us and city parking is tight, but hated having to use the touchscreen of ID 8 for everything.

Based upon what I can gather, it appears that the F40/F44 instrument cluster would fit. They're cheap enough on the used market that it might be worth a trying a swap. |

That would be beyond fantastic! But the tach in the picture only goes to 6k/min so it must be for the diesel. Big no-no for the roadster as I understand.

FWIW ID8 vs ID7 was glad the M4C missed the cut to switch over to the ID8. Can deal with "backwards" gauges. The Speedo in the Cobra like the speedo's in the originals in the early 1960's is "backwards". Not much current stuff that is truly unique.

Going from an e89 to the g29, I am very happy with the displays and tech. Would be very cool if BMW provided an update that allowed more display options and control.

The new Mustang's display has a setting to mimic the Fox body Mustang gauges, it would be cool if BMW had a setting for the E85-E89 gauges. I imagine it should be easy to do. They could even go full Star Trek if they wanted since it's just a display screen.

Yeah I would be very surprised if it's plug and play. I'd even be surprised if there's any firmware versions compatible with the combination.
