Blind spot

I've had the car a month now and I'm loving it, apart from the massive blind spot at the rear quarter. When I'm joining a main road from a side road at a 45-ish degree angle, I have no idea what's coming from my left. Even leaning left and forward I can't really see far enough back down the main road.

How does everyone else find it (obviously for US and Europe drivers the issue would be joining a road with traffic coming from behind and right)?

It does have a big blind spot, nature of the beast - my F type was pretty much the same. the mirror indicator helps but honestly, I just drive with the top down whenever possible. Luckily for me, my Z4 is a summer fun car and the top is down 90% of the time.

Blind spot

One of the 1st things I noticed about this car was the huge blind spot. I received a call from BMW asking for my opinion of the car. I gave the car a glowing review except the blind spot. I think they're aware and perhaps will make the windows bigger. I use the tech provided, blind spot detector and rear view camera, to compensate for the bad blind spot. The rear view camera says not to rely on it but there's no other way to see what's going on if the top is up.

I have never experienced issue with the blind spot. However, hanging a SUV in the lane next to you and being in the turn lane caused me headaches a couple times, especially if SUV inched forward into the intersection and I couldn’t see around them. Usually I pay attention and just stop ‘behind’ the SUV or stop in such a way that I can see through their windows (if small enough), but still ...

Thanks for the comments. I think I might just get one of those stick-on mirrors that go in the corner of the side mirror.

They look a little bit naff but probably better than getting hit at 60mph!

get the drivers assistance package w blind spot detection

I highly recommend this just for the blind spot detection in the mirrors. my last 2 cars had horrible blind spots and I absolutely love this new feature on this car. It makes a huge difference and highly recommend it to anyone looking to get this car.

It only works close up though doesn't it? The issue I have is when I'm waiting to pull out at a junction and I can't see whether there is anything coming down the main road.
