Would you sell the E31 850CSi for a 964 911 or keep both?

Hi there guys. Since I have always been a huge 911 fan I am thinking about getting one. I am talking about the newer ones. The reason I ask and I know its a long shot since its a Porsche forum but I am afraid I would miss the BMW. My heart has been always beating for the Porsche but I have never owned one.
Also would would you say Porsche is better than BMW?
There is one thing that I have been thinking.
I have BMW e31 850 "CSI" as I had all moved from a crashed CSI into my 850 and I love it. I have put actually crazy heart into and and a lot of love At the moment I am having mixed feelings and some might say afraid of owning 2 cars.
What would you do? Give me good arguments
Sell the BMW and get the 911?
Wait and just keep the BMW and get a 911 to the collection?
A friend of mine said that when I would get the 911 I would just forget about the BMW.
Another friend that actually owns both said to own them both.
So What would you do?

If you can afford to own both, have both. If you find yourself ignoring the 850, sell it.

if you love your car and it makes you happy don't sell it

Or sell it after you get the 911 so you can be sure.

Objectively, a stock 850csi is in a different performance category than modern 911 but subjectively the v12 sounds and experience of an old school GT car is nice

I'm a huge 911 fan. I own one. My parents say I liked them even before I could talk. And I've been obsessing over them my entire life.

And I still wouldn't sell a 850csi for one, unless maybe it's one of the special air cooled models. I'd find a way to keep both.

Is it an authentic factory CSI, though? I ask because you put quotes on "CSI"

Different cars. The porsche is a sports car, a car that is driven. It's not a classic. It probably won't rise in value unless you are buying a GT2, GT3 or something more unique. The 850 probably doesn't command high end porsche prices, but it's probably going to rise in value if it's a legitimate CSI. If you treat it nice it'll be a decent investment. If you don't plan on keeping the 850 for the uniqueness and investment aspect, then get rid of it and get something you'll enjoy.

Get both, if you find you're not using the 850 you can sell it but if you can afford both then get the 911 and enjoy both......different animals.

Ah, I see. So I don't know if it's as valuable as a CSI but there has to be some value to "individual Ci modded with oem CSi parts".

Value of course is only part of the equation. It's probably more important to look inward to see if you still love the car. But like I said, I'd never be giving it up if it were me.

I don't know how it is in Iceland, but in the US a pristine 8-series is more of a head turner than a non-GT water-cooled 911

I’m confused on the last part of your post. The 964 is an air cooled car and is far more valuable than an 8 series. If you are not aware, Singers are all 964 chassis cars.

Original poster, I’d go for the 964. Better looking, better sound, better driver’s car and a car that in the grand scheme is the more valuable part investment.

Well, shit. Was ‘964’ always in the title? If so i totally missed it, my apologies. Doesn’t change my answer, though - try to find a way to own both. I absolutely love the 964, but they will be available for sale for the foreseeable future. So OP can afford to keep his BMW, and be patient as he accumulates a 911 fund. There could also be a chance that prices cool off if the global economy tanks.

Wait, a stock 964? Easy pass. I'm not a fan of the 8er, but really don't like 964's. 993 would be wildly better and I'd take a 993 over an 850CSi, but not a 964.

And yes, Singer and (I believe Gunther Werks) use the 964 as a starting point, but that's sort of like saying a 964 used a Beetle as its starting point.

I personally am not a fan of 964s, and they aren't cheap...

why not get a cheap SC or 996 to see what it's like to own and drive a 911?
then you can decide if owing a 911 solely will do it for you.

The 8 is still going strong and the 964 is a no go.
Getting expensive to fix and most of them leak oil I have looked at

Owning an 850, you are not afraid of spending money on maintenance. Air cooled Porsches are not without issues, but are generally solid cars. The 964 has the advantage of being a little simpler compared to the 993.

The air cooled Porsches are absolutely nothing like modern water cooled cars. They still have the original 911 DNA -- even the later 90s cars fundamentally feel like a 60s era car. Loud, smelly, quirky and full of character. Alive. I personally love them and right now have a wide body 993 C4S to compliment my F90.

I think a 964 would be a fantastic complement to the 850CSi. I'd wait until I could afford both.

The 850 is 10 times cooler than some slow Porsche with technology decades out of date, but if you're buying cars for investment you should know better (and have the funds to not be rushed) so at this point it's looking like you have basically 0 utility for these cars and want to shake that up a bit by announcing your collection to the forum.

You're BMW is beautiful, and nice looking place BTW......this is a tough call, I'd go with eugenecp, get both if you can manage them as they are very different animals. I am a huge Porsche fan but that car of yours is sooo kool.
