i'm curious what they had to do to it to achieve that. i'm not one of those that knock these electric car lap times, but i'm curious what was holding them back previously and what they had to improve to achieve this. pretty incredible.

Not interested in this at all.
Electric = no soul. I don't want to hear the tires and wind noise only. I want to hear the engine and transmission and work the transmission.
Yup, I'm a dinosaur and love it.

My philosophy is more similar to Gordon Murray's. Light weight cars with a manual trans and IC engine.

Same. You couldnt give me one. Not interested in the least in any battery powered vehicle no matter how futuristic, efficient, technologically advanced it may be.

I'm starting to like the sound of these electric cars, honestly, not more than a gasoline engine, but they have their own charm IMO.

My problem with them is that they're just like most Americans; overweight. Same with the new M3/M4, I couldn't care less if it has 100 more hp or whatever, it's the weight that puts me off.

Give me a LIGHT car with performance, not a heavy car with performance.

Amen, couldn't have said it better.

They can go ahead and flaunt the acceleration and occasional emotionless track times (before they over heat) all day, I'll be in the canyons and tracks taking corners with a properly weighed FR 6MT ICE car with an intoxicating exhaust note.

And no, it was never about the track times, not for a weekend and occasional track car at least.
Performance is multi dimensioned and track times , as hard as they try to make you believe it is, is not the only thing that measures performance.

Couldn't agree more. Not to mention all these BEV cars that are coming out that have these performance figure (ie this and Taycan) are 6 figures.

I lump it all in the same category as the gazillion hyper cars coming out on a monthly basis: Don't care.

After all of the endless posts about 'Ring track times we just found out that the times don't matter and it is all about how the car sounds.

I don't think anyone, even us ICE fan boys, has doubted the massive torque, speed that come from electric motors and all the "handling" that comes from the computers controlling it all. They will be fast.

The difference is when driving it; You could spend $500, get a PS4 and have close to the same driver feedback as you get in one of those cars.

Pretty damn awesome.

Think I'm turning down a Model S Plaid or a 1300hp Lucid Air Performance? NOPE!

The performance will trickle down sooner rather than later as will ways to improve dynamics.

ICE isn't going anywhere anytime soon but its good the alternative is getting more popular.

Judging from the way this guy is sawing at the wheel, I’d say there is indeed driver feedback and involvement. Tbh even when I have my much slower M roadster out at Laguna, there’s plenty of fatigue at the end of the day just from moving about at speed, so I don’t think it’s quite as dull as some make it out to be. It’s not the same as an ICE car, it’s not a Miata, it’s not a manual, I get it. Still impressive though, and you can certainly enjoy both old and new school. Isn’t that what being an auto enthusiast is? No need to bash

Agreed...total POS with no soul or connection to the driver whatsoever. Sold my Toyota Sienna after just a few months for the same reasons. It was decent overall, but there was zero communication through the steering wheel, it wouldn't like to rotate while trail braking, and the engine noise was not inspiring whatsoever. I never felt connected to the machine, so I swapped it for an Exige S and couldn't be happier.
