Another feeling our the crowd post "cross contamination"

My wife was getting her wisdom teeth out and I went in post surgery. While in the room the nurse was taking off her monitors and IV. The thing I noticed was instead of using the foot lever to open the trash can she used her hands(with gloves) but went back to tending my wife including removing the IV after touching the trash can lid many times.

I am decently paranoid about cross contamination and wondering if this is an issue or normal. If she touches the can after every patient the gloves become useless in protecting the patient.

True. Poor technique for sure.

She also has a small cut about 2cm from her mouth... Not sure if this is normal either.

I would mention concern to the surgeon involved. Probably some retraining is warranted.

I would probably do in person. Personally wouldn't want to get someone in trouble and would mention that just letting them know so changes to procedure can be made.

The gloves are to protect the NURSE from you/wife, not the other way around. . .

Agreed, but that's only half the story.

I also hate getting people in trouble. I almost never complain and before I do I like to make sure I'm not being unreasonable.

There's a difference between complaining and merely expressing concern.

if that worries you, you should get some dental work done in Mexico.

Ive had friends do that, and half the time they dont wear any gloves. But it is so much cheaper, especially if you dont have insurance.

Lol. I had a coworker and her husband go to Mexico to get their stomachs stapled. They both had major complications and both got MRSA. She missed months of work and got all of the time(surgery included) covered under FMLA and Std.

I know you can get some infections south, but didn't realize the DENTISTS were passing around STDs to patients. . .
