Picked up a pair of these back in the spring.

(Of course now they're on sale for less than half of what I paid for them...sigh...anyway, you gotta love the model name for them, "Porno Paisley." LOL)

I love shoes! Of course, the ones above aren't for everyday wear, but they are fun for the few times I'll want to wear them. I was surprised the little studs didn't come out the first night I wore them, but they didn't. They aren't quite as comfortable as I'd have liked for wearing without socks -- if you press your foot about inside the shoe, you can feel where the studs are through the leather lining -- but they're okay for short periods.

All the best.

I thought the rule was when the red bottoms get scuffed, time for a new pair? (Usually purchased by me according to my fiancé??? Lol)

Yeah, I pay private preschool tuition on my own. That taps into the shoe budget just a bit. $100 to re lacquer or $921 for new shoes lol

Not everyday, but once or twice a year, yes, I expect to. I only got them a few months back, and only have worn the black and silver ones once so far.

All the best.

Perhaps I'm odd, but I don't much care who makes the shoes I buy. I do care whether they look cool to me, and I care that they are well made.

Other:
Being divorced and having a daughter, I have some experience with women's shoes on account of having had to help keep her shod for the past 20 years. The shoes I've bought for her range from flat sandals to riding boots. I have to say that to this day, I think women are crazy in terms of what they'll pay for the flimsiest shoes. Suffice to say, there's little I've spent money on that irked me more that spending it on the shoes my daughter wants. (She's married and living on her dime now, so I don't care now, so long as her shoe habit doesn't cause me to have to bail her and my son-in-law out of debt. )

It seems to me that the more delicately constructed the shoe, and the more negatively impactful a scuff/scrape will be to the aesthetics of the shoe, the more it costs. The great many shoes I've bought my daughter, once slightly damaged or worn, can't really be repaired. (For guys here that haven't had to buy shoes for a woman, go here -- http://us.jimmychoo.com/en/bridal-bo...FYEYHwodCNsIKw -- and you'll see what I mean. I learned about those shoes when my daughter asked me what I thought of the shoes she wanted to wear with her wedding dress. The shoes there that look like they'll hold up better cost less! (It's the same with other so-called "nice" shoes.) Go figure....

Things are exactly the opposite with men's shoes. If one spends $1K+ on a woman's shoe, it's likely only going to survive one to six wearings. Do the same buying a man's shoe and it's often a shoe that will last a lifetime.

Don't get me wrong, I've bought my daughter some shoes that seem somewhat better put together than most, but even they aren't anywhere near as sturdily crafted as are the men's equivalent.

I've bought my daughter several pairs of these shoes...

...and in large measure they have held up and lasted her for years.

Some of the ones at the top -- I call them "bow flats" or "bow loafers" -- are starting to look long in the tooth, but some of them have survived for about five to ten years, so I can't complain about that. The horse-bit loafers I bought her are the shoes I recall seeing her wear most often. They seemed to be her "go to" shoes for just doing whatever she was doing -- walking to classes, going to high school and college parties, going to the movies or mall, just chilling, etc. -- that wasn't a an "event." Especially in the winter. That said, they, along with her riding boots and camping/hiking shoes, are the exceptions.

Her mother bought her myriad pairs of sandals that looked something like these, and they didn't survive three summers, some of them not even a whole summer.

And here's the thing....my daughter surely has some 60 - 80 pairs of shoes. For as often as I've seen her wearing her horse-bit loafers, I know she can't possibly wear any of her other shoes all that much. So their not lasting for years on end is all the more astounding to me.

I understand women wanting style in their shoes, seasonal style even. What I don't get is why/how the shoes at the site I linked above are any more or less stylish than the ones here: http://www.walmart.com/tp/womens-dre...=color%3AWhite . Plus, seeing as she is probably only going to get half a dozen wears from either them no matter what she pays (to say nothing of the woman not wanting to wear them the next season anyway), what's the point of paying 30x the price for any of them?

Don't get me wrong, I get what "luxury goods" are all about. I also "buy into" the idea of paying more to get something that is actually higher in quality. But I also know that for the first few wearings, it doesn't matter what one pays for them, any shoe will look nice. The way I see it, the point of paying "stupid" sums for a shoe is to get a shoe one can wear year in and year out, assuming the styling allows -- be it staid or so "out there" that they'll always still look cool because they look so unique.

For example, I think the studded loafers I bought will look nifty 20 years from now. On the other hand, I still have and wear my penny loafers from high school. I've had them reheeled/resoled several times, but they are still fine. I think they might have cost my parents more than "run of the mill" penny loafers (if there is such a thing, but not 30x more. I seriously doubt any of my daughter's shoes will survive 35+ years...maybe the horese-bit loafers and her riding boots will, but that's about it.

All the best.

All three look great. How long do you think they'll last? How long do you want them to last? Will you be annoyed if they don't last as long as you expect them to?

All the best.

So what I want to know is do those shoes, particularly the uppers, seem to be as durable as commercial carpeting? Are the uppers in fact commercial carpeting?

All the best.
