I'm putting in an order for an M40i. One of the trim options is "Aluminum Mesh Effect Ambient Light". What is the ambient light part? It's not mentioned for the other two options (black, aluminum tetragon).

I'm more than a little surprised there's no CF option.

I saw that too, and wondered the same. Perhaps this option is only available with the ambient light option?

Anyway, that is what I selected after researching the trim options like I am sure you have. I like it a lot. The Tetragon looked too fake, and the gloss black looked like a pain to keep pristine. Happy with my choice.

I'm also hoping the mesh effect is less reflective than the other two. I hate sun glare off of interior surfaces, especially in a convertible.

Ambient lighting is a separate option from the trim, either as a stand alone or part of the Premium package. I'm not sure why the website lists it that way in regards to the mesh effect trim, but I have the Tetragon and it has the same lighting. Choose which one you like. The lighting is the same

It is a shame that BMW never offered a CF option as I think many of us would have ordered it.

Yeah, it's not. There's just a thin ambient lighting strip that runs down the passenger side of the trim piece. Would be cool though if it was actually illuminated.

Yep. I got CF trim on my (soon to be outgoing) M240i sort of by accident, because the dealer had it in inventory at the time. But it's really grown on me.

I’ve never noticed any glare off of the mesh effect trim. It’s more of a matte finish and is more subtle than the other metallic trim option.

FWIW, the Tetragon trim doesn't have any glare that I've noticed either, and this is my second car with that trim.

Could it be that they put an ambient light addition to the center trim area? I have this and can send a picture.

I was a bit surprised on the CF as well, but honestly this car doesn't really suit the CF imho. If there was a matte CF I would absolutely consider it though especially with a black interior.

I’ve got that trim on my G29 and noticed that there is ambient lighting that runs along the right side of the console trim edge but is not on the left side of the console.
Seemed weird when I noticed it last week, but after a few minutes of driving with the top down I forgot all about it.

All the trim options have the same lighting, with the strip running down just the passenger side (or right side for us US folks). I've seen all three trim options to confirm this.
