They shouldn’t have even used the size of the Z4 to determine the size of the A90, it’s not like the CLAR isn’t scalable.

Just a little bit longer and this car could have had AMG GT proportions

You're preaching to the choir. Hopefully they will redeem themselves with the rumored in house A100.

Some people have pointed that C&D most likely used the current 86 for this render. For example the beltline is lower than the spied camo prototype.

I am still apprehensive about that. There is no reason to wait to produce what they want since they have the resources to do it now.

Idk if it was BS, but the excuse was that it would have taken another 2 yrs to develop an in-house drivetrain and that they were trying to release it asap before tougher regulations were in place.

Any who, should we get back on topic with the 86.

Looks ok...kind of bland honestly.

Would be cool if they designed the next GT86 (now GR86 I guess) to more closely resemble the Trueno’s body style.

March 2021 debut

The FR sports created in 2012 by the joint development of Toyota and Subaru will switch to the second generation in March 2021.

The current BRZ has already finished accepting orders in July 2020, and the Toyota 86 is also expected to end sales in September 2020.

The basic chassis is a carryover of the current model, but the knowledge gained from the improvements made so far has been utilized to obtain the rigidity suitable for being called a new model.

The engine mounted on the high-rigidity chassis is a 2.4-liter, horizontally opposed 4-cylinder FA24 model. The displacement increased by 400 cc from the current type has a great effect on increasing the torque, the maximum torque has been increased from 21.6 kg of the current 2L to about 24.5 kg, and the maximum torque generating rotation has been reduced, greatly improving drivability. ..

Unfortunately, the price is likely to increase from 3 million yen, but it can be said that it is a full model change with enough value.

I told my wife it would be a perfect car for a teenager who wants something sporty looking but can’t go fast and kill them as easy.

I like it. Has a bit of a 90's era vibe to it as the front end looks a little like a 2nd gen Eclipse and nice clean side profile.

Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 due in fourth quarter of 2021

https://www.caradvice.com.au/885751/...arter-of-2021/

Quote:
Despite earlier reports suggesting the all-new sports car could arrive by mid-2021, CarAdvice now understands the twins could arrive in the latter half of next year.

The much-anticipated 2021 Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 coupes are expected to be in Australian showrooms at the end of of 2021.

CarAdvice understands no firm date has yet been given to local dealerships, however there is an internal expectation that – if all goes to plan – the new models will begin arriving during the fourth quarter of 2021, some six months after the model was initially expected.

No offical reason has been given for the presumed delay, however the development of several other Toyota and Subaru models have been similarly affected by slowdowns caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Last month the car was spied testing near Toyota's research and development centre in Michigan, with much clearer spy shots emerging only days later.

The current generation models are built at Subaru's assembly plant in Japan, and feature a naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre boxer engine producing 152kW and 212Nm.

Subaru and Toyota have maintained they are looking to increase the power output for the new model, however there has been much speculation about what specific powertrain will be used.

Earlier this month CarAdvice reported that the car could get a naturally aspirated variant of the 2.4-litre FA24 boxer engine (shared with the 2021 Subaru Outback), however other reports have suggested the powertrain could be turbocharged.

It will likely be offered with a choice of six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed torque-converter automatic.

Render looks good to me, it's already a good looking car and this just looks like a natural progression in the design direction. Good on Toyota for producing a car like this, I wish more manufacturers still did.

If this really turns out to be new bodywork on a nearly 10-year old chassis with a small bump in NA power...........I suspect it's going to be a sales failure.

I loved my '15 BRZ especially on the E85 tune. If the 20% displacement bump adds roughly the same torque/power and they keep it the same weight, or even a little less..........it would be just about a perfect.

The torque dip on the FA20 made street driving a bit of a PITA on the street sometimes.

And also keep room under the stock fenders for BEEF. With just the right offset you could stuff 18x10 with 265/35 under the stock fenders. I ran 18x9.5 with 255/35s..........Enkei made a special RPF1 specifically for that fitment, then many other manufacturers copied the specs.

Why because Toyota is offering a lightweight, manual, RWD, affordable sports car still in a world of automatics and SUVs? We should be happy that these kind of cars are still being built!
