Haven't done it in NY, but have twice in Colorado. One of the main things we looked for were places that give the car to someone, rather than someplace that just auctions them off.
First, we wanted people to benefit from the cars (since they both still ran just fine). Second, with this method you get to use the car value for your taxes. If they sell it you can only claim the sales price.

where in NY? I know some sell or auction them off, so they don't get a great value for them. Charities that give them to people are better in my opinion as well.
If it is a light blue G6, I'll buy it for the front bumper :-D

I live in NY and a couple years ago I donated a car to Make a Wish which benefits very sick children. It's a first class, above board organization. You even get a tax break with a vehicle donation.
http://wish.org/ I would avoid cars for kids at all costs, they are not what they appear. |

Still on fence as to what to do. Edit: And no it's black on black with new brakes, rotors and tires. The tires are worth more than the car, lol. |

I called Purple Heart yesterday. Tomorrow I'll check out make a wish. Appears they all do $500 unless the car sells for more. |
