Ferrari boss says sedan out of the question

As long as Luca di Montezemolo is in charge at Ferrari, the Italian automaker will never build a sedan. That was the declaration di Montezemolo made at the Paris Motor show yesterday, following the debut of rival Lamborghini’s Estoque four-door.

While Porsche is prepping its Panamera sedan and Aston Martin is putting the finishing touches on its Rapide, Ferrari is steadfast in its opposition to such a strategy.

The company chairman made it clear he feels sister company Maserati covers the sedan segment sufficiently. This seems to echo a recent statement by Ferrari spokesperson Davide Kluzer that SUVs and sedans are something “we will never do.”

Di Montezemolo also noted the supercar maker would not build a vehicle with a V10. Instead, it will focus mostly on V8s, plus new fuel-efficient technologies like the Formula One Kinetic Energy Recovery System.

So there you have it, folks. The Lamborghini Estoque will remain the world’s most exotic sedan for the foreseeable future.

Good, Ferrari doesn't need to be messing around with that douchebaggery.

+1. Ferrari doesn't need to be doing it. They have a hard enough time keeping up with orders as it is.

+2....lol.

Anyway, I'm hanging both ways on Ferrari sedan topic. I don't want Ferrari making a sedan as it will lose it's prestige or "Ferrari-ness' thing but on the other hand, I can't help but imagine what a Ferrari sedan would look like

Honestly, Ferrari's aren't really even the best looking cars out there. The F430 is beautiful, and the 599 is also a looker, but the 612, the California, the Enzo, basically the large majority of them, only look halfway decent because of their supercar proportions and details. Give any automotive designer the leeway that those at Ferrari get and you'll be seeing lots of exotic designs, most likely better ones too.

God, a Ferrari 4-door couldn't be the best looking thing out there. They need to hire some chumps from Lambo imo.

Ferrari has always said for years they will never build either. People keep putting the various photoshops and rumors out there and because of all the other companies releasing 4-doors they have to comment.

A lot of cars have to be seen in person to be appreciated though. I thought the 612 was ugly when it was debuted. Then I saw one in person soon after and thought it was great. Perfect for a family get-a-way car for the weekend, and everyday cruiser.

Ferrari doesn't need to hire anyone from *AUDI* to design their cars. I love Lamborghini, always have. I probably wanted a Countach more than any other car prior to the Diablo coming out. When the last 6.0 rolled off the assembly line, Lambo's lost their true exotic character. Just my opinion. But one shared by a lot of people passionate about what Lamborghini use to be.

Never say never?

Apparently people don't talk to each other at Ferrari:

. . . Lambo's lost their true exotic character. . .
About the 612, I've seen a couple of em, including an all white one (white ext/white with black int). They're alright in my opinion. I think the lines are too soft and dated looking. The front end is also a bit of a pudge too. It's true though, almost all cars nowadays need to be seen in the flesh. So much of modern car design involves the play of light.

And I agree with your last statement too, but I'd like to refer to the Reventon. There's a car that shows that Lambo hasn't lost its soul to germanic stolidity just yet . Honestly, I think Lambo has benefitted from Audi to an extent. The LP640/560's are a mix of exotic proportions and calculated precision. I like how Audi improved the brand. However, I hope to god that Lambos never look like Audis. They're some of the least emotional designs out there.

When you have all the money in the world, Ferrari/Pininfarina/etc will build anything for you. But it still doesn't count because it never was built for the masses.

I agree with you on the 612. The lines are very soft, but when you look at it being the new 456 it followed suit very well. It's meant to be everyday. It doesn't stand out as much so you can go shopping and do what ever without cameras coming out constantly.

As for Lambo, the Reventon just doesn't meet my expectations. Specifically because of it's limited production #'s. IMO, it's not special enough to equal the $1mill.+ price tag. I was so excited when they developed the Miura Concept. It would have made so much more sense to create it as a limited production model, than a stylistically modified LP640. It just made more sense.

I don't have anything against Audi at all. I love them. After riding in my friends A4, an Audi will be in the running for my next car (whenever that may be). They have the best interiors out, I think we'll agree on that. And I agree with you that Audi has made Lambo a better, stronger company.

While I may not be as keen on them as I was the Diablo's, the Gallardo/Murci/LP's are still gorgeous cars and flat out BADASS! They make my heart skip a beat everytime I see one. I have this concept in my head of what a Lamborghini is, and I just haven't seen it yet.

well yeah they don't count, but I was referencing bimmerloyalist who opined that a Ferrari 4-door could never look good and I was merely opining back that the limited run 456 sedans and wagons looked pretty good and not at all out of character for the marque.
