Traded my Bimmer in on a Hyundai...

So from Infiniti to BMW and now to Hyundai haha. (No brand loyalty) Decided to finally get serious about dumping my '06 330i now that it's just turned over to 122,000 miles after several years of way to many road trips. Went to the Hyundai dealer to look at the Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-Spec on Wed and bought it yesterday. Really couldn't be happier. Steering feels solid, factory limited slip diff, brembos, much better interior than I expected out of a Hyundai and under $30k. Lovin this new car, anyone else got one or had one?

Thanks, I haven't really had a whole lot of time to compare as the Genesis is barley at 100 miles and I have to break it in. But so far it feels like you're a bit more disconnected from the road, but not to bad. Everything feels tight still, just not every pebble sending shock-waves through my car like always happened in my BMW. But it's still a fairly stiff and controlled car compared to anything else I could really think of in it's class/price range.

how are hyundia now? I know they use to be a cheap brand back in the days. I never own one nor any friends/family so not sure how the korean brand is like.
the car looks sweet!

Yeah I guess back when I was a kid (80's/90's) they had a bad rep. That's why they do the 10yr/100k mile warranty now, to show they stand behind their products. My dad drove a little Accent back in the early 2000's to commute from Northern VA to the Pentagon like 100 miles a day as a throw-away car. Going in to the dealer these days, I was really surprised at how nice (and expensive!) their cars are becoming... except the Accent lol, that's still ugly as sin. But the RWD Genesis coupes and the Sedans with the 4.6 V8s along with all the other cars in the lineup look like they could really rival most any other cars in their class at a relative bargain price

Nice, the 2.0s are a good deal, but the V6s are outclassed at that price range.

Idk about that. The 3.8 V6 is 305ish HP and $10k cheaper than the competition 335i and G37. Luxury-wise, they're definitely not a match (My G37 was my favorite for luxury) and might be a bit slower stock vs stock, but looking at power/value, I think the Hyundai holds up really well to the competitors

Just a tune and it's faster than the 3.8 v6. I went to the dragstrip yesterday and witnessed two guys with the coupe. One dude had the 3.8 and the other had the 2.0 and he had his tuned. The 2.0 tuned was beating the 3.8 by a couple of mph and tenths. Surprising...

Hyundai is quickly gaining market share and with good reasons. Their cars look better and better and offer great values. Toyota and Honda on the other hand get crappier by the day.

But when you look at the V6 compared to the Camaro or Mustang V6's which offer similar horsepower at a lower price or to the Camaro or Mustang V8's which offer much more power at the same price, the Genesis V6 is outclassed. Hyundai says the car competes with the G37 but it really competes with the Mustang/Camaro/Challenger.

+1

I wouldn't consider the Genesis Coupe a competitor to cars such as the 335i. Two completely different classes IMO.

??? The Genesis Coupe is a all around great car look at the brakes, wheels, exhaust and styling... If I bought a camaro in V6 or the mustang in a V6 I would kind of look down on that.... Its supposed to be a muscle car... As for the genesis coupe its true to it self...

What stigma...? If there are any stigmas Bmw and Mercedes comes on top of my list. Not Hyundai

Why not? Sports car with similar power levels(~300hp), RWD, 6 cylinder, Leather Interior. Hyundai is what $10k cheaper? Is it because of the price?

Thats like saying GTR & 911 Turbo aren't in the same class. GTR is ~$40k cheaper.

Genesis is like the GTR, bang for your buck with similar performance compared to cars that cost more.

Or worse performance than quite a number of cars in the same price range. There's no miracles here. Like any car it's a mix of trade offs and compromises. On the whole it may offer the best overall value (which will appeal to a lot of people), but its focus is not on performance.
I think the reason it even comes up is because it's looks like a fast car (in the same class as the Z), but it's not.

I drove a Gen coupe before I bought my second G37 and it really was a nice little car. The handling is good, the engine (3.8 V6) has a nice sound to it, and it feels really tight. My only concern was the lack of luxury, which is understandable at its price point. That was the reason I went with Infiniti again...

I love the Sonata in the gray & red color with the 18 inch wheels.. Stunning! I would get one if it's available in AWD.

How is the genesis focus not in performance? Car has a track package that has upgraded brakes(brembos), Better steerage, and a limited slip differential(something 135i & 335is don't have). It also has more hp than a 135i/335i (306 hp)

335i and G37 aren't it's competition. The 370Z is it's direct competitor at that price and is a much better car than the Genesis 3.8. Subaru has the STi at that price as well.

Also, the 135i is also a lot closer than the 335i.
