Alexa gives you voice access to internet sourced data. You can say: Alexa, what’s the weather in (name your location), or Alexa, play (fill in your favorite artist) and it will shuffle through songs, or Alexa, what time does (the store of your choice) close? I haven’t tried this in the car yet, but at home I could ask alexa what time a specific movie was playing at a particular theatre. I’m hoping to use that feature again soon. I’ve been impressed with the complexity of questions Alexa can handle. You can have her do math or conversions, I.E. Alexa how many liters are in 27 gallons? I should note that I have Amazon Prime, so I’m not sure if you get all of this without having a prime subscription.

No, I haven't enabled it yet.

Might be going to go see the Genius at the dealership here soon though because there are some features that I don't understand and have been trolling around the software to figure out for awhile including why I can't simply connect my phone through blue tooth (always resorts to wifi). Reason why this is concerning is because when connected to the wifi, I can't listen to things like Pandora and it's making me grumpy lol.

Sitting down with a BMW Genius is a good idea. When I picked up my car the expert spent about 45 minutes going over features with me and we didn’t touch on everything. As for the iphone issue, I’m pretty sure I’m connected via Bluetooth, but I can check. Are you using Apple CarPlay?

So the phone connects via BlueTooth... but if i turn off my wifi, it drops the connection. It's annoying and getting it to register back on again either takes awhile or doesn't take at all. Yes I use carplay. Love the feature.

I haven’t turned WI-FI off while in the car, so I don’t know if the same thing will happen to me. Out of curiosity, why are you turning off WI-FI?

Sorry.. turning off the WiFi on my phone. For some reason, connecting the phone to wifi in the car, I'm not able to stream music like Pandora. If i turn off the wifi I can... but then I lose connection to the car. Sometimes it comes back via bluetooth and other times not so much. Its weird. I need to talk to a Genius about this.

Can you not use the Pandora app through CarPlay?
CarPlay uses WiFi to communicate to my knowledge.

It'll start through carplay, but won't play music because for some reason my phone won't accept data when connected via wifi to the car... it's weird and I need to figure it out.

bluetooth should work for that.

Never used Carplay or android auto before so not vested in the tech.

I think that sounds like a phone issue. Weird, for sure. Basic guess - if you have an iPhone, in Settings, you can individually give apps permission to use cellular data.

Dumb question: have you tried rebooting your iphone? I’ve found when things start getting wonky when interfacing with other equipment that resolves it most of the time.

Took at look at the 2022 configurator on BMWUSA and noticed they nixed the Exec Package and I don't see the Adaptive Suspension or auto high beams as options. Anyone know if this is due to the chip shortage or are they standard now?

The chip shortage is now heavily impacting all automakers. If it is not listed on standard equipment, it is not available. Word has it that things won't get back to normal for another 2 years. With the life cycle end of the Z4 slated for MY2025; it might be prudent to wait.

Definitely! Luckily I pulled the trigger last year on a 2021 so I got all the options I wanted. Think I did it at just the right time.

I got mine last week. It downloaded to my phone over the home wi-fi and then I started the update when in the car. You may want to check your settings to make sure it only downloads when connected to the internet as updates can burn through a gig of data. The update itself has a bunch of parameters that must be met before it runs (including engaging the parking brake - go figure) and it takes a while to complete.

I haven't noticed any issues with the car after the update but I haven't really run it much since then. Not interested in Alexa and that functionality is the main emphasis of the update.

Yea, I got it last week as well.

One thing I did note is I seem to have lost my settings I had put in with BimmerCode.

Whats weird about it is I was online today and it popped up, so I added it and I got a build code of EKZ5Q26U, when I went to try it again in a different color the option wasn't there.
