I get so sick seeing people deride Bottas because he's not as good as HAM is, when literally no one is. The guy is being tasked with one of the most thankless jobs out there - "Support your teammate"

He's probably driving past his limits, which is why he's always struggling. I don't think any number 2 could realistically do better.

I agree. We all say "well, given he's in a Mercedes, he should be better". Ok, better how? Just like HAM can't win it all, you can't expect BOT to win when HAM doesn't. And when BOT is doing well, it's don't race HAM. I'm not bashing Mercedes but whoever is in that #2 seat has one job and one job only, support HAM. Sure, there have been some questionable races (who doesn't have those) but when you look at what that seat requires, I think BOT is doing what is required and helping them win constructor titles.

But if you think it should always be a Mercedes 1-2, you still have VER there to compete against - not as easy as you think.

Suggesting Alonso to RB pleases me no end, there's still an old score to settle from way back with Hamilton and I liked what I saw later on in the 'stock car' race.

I don't think you guys truly understand the differences in pure, raw skill that Hamilton has over the rest of F1 - think Tom Brady to the NFL. Unlike Tom Brady, I don't think Hamilton is using witchcraft, but it's hard to deny the pure skill gap that Lewis has on everyone.

You all realize that if it weren't for Mercedes sabotaging HAM (be it for Roseberg's pride, or because they didn't want FIA to come down on Mercedes for HAM's dominance, I don't know) HAM would be on the longest win streak ever.
So, where was ALL this HAM talent between 2007 to 2013?
Beaten by Kimi, Button and VET 4 times that's where.

Sorry, but he didn't emerge until the all conquering MB TEAM arrived with the new rules package and Niki whispering in his ear.

Don't get me wrong, I believe he is absolutely one of the best. But let's see what happens if MB let RUS have a go next year. LEC, NOR & VER could also give HAM some heartburn given the chance in equal equipment.

Lastly Nico & Botta$$ are both non-driving wankers. So no big accomplishment there.

And an older ALO holding off HAM in a Alpine for that many laps. Come on, give him some credit.

What are you talking about? He almost won the championship his first year. If it weren't for reliability issues he would have had it.

His first race ever in f1 he got 3rd, a podium finish. He literally broke a 58 year record for a Debut driver on a podium.

2nd race ever, 2nd place. Again, podium.

Race 3/4? - same, 2nd place.

2nd in Monaco

First win in Montreal.

It goes on and on 90% of the season.

He was literally leading the drivers championship with only 3 races left on his first year in f1. At two races left, he was 14 points in the lead. Last two races, tire delamination, and McLaren kept him out even though they knew he needed new tires… he inevitably lost grip and crashed out.

The last Race of the Season, Brazil, gearbox failure.

The dude literally would have won the championship his first year.

No talent?

LOL!

Kimi was gifted the championship by Massa. He didn't win it.

Name a driver that has had more WDC teammates than Sir Lewis? Oh...that would be zero. He busted ALO up as a rookie and kept Seb honest when the RBR was 2 secs per lap faster. Take a look at the actual record from 2007 to 2013. If I remember correctly, only VET in a 2 seconds per lap, at minimum, faster car won more races. And as for BUT and ROS...they both used every bit of driver ability they ahd and Lewis retired them both. Just as he moved ALO out of the team, took over Mercedes from ROS as he kicked his butt all over the place, and broke nearly every record in the book.

If you believe any of the drivers you mentioned are better than Sir Lewis, take up watching NASCAR in your area, my friend. You're letting bias get in the way of objectivity and logic.

Just like Massa gifted it to HAM in 2008

Button was only WDC due to Brawn double diffuser.

Correct on ROS as he knew he would never beat HAM again.

I didn't say the drivers I listed were better than HAM. I said they could give him a go unlike ROS and BOT.

Don't run me off to NASCAR

Sure, 2008 counts but that's just one year during the listed time frame. And he only won it do to rain and a last lap, last corner pass of slappy Nick Heidfeld I believe. I'm sure MKSixer will correct if memory serves wrong

Okay...? Allow me to correct myself. There is the talent.

I'll wait for you to show me a better rookie season than his.

2nd youngest WDC of all time too.

I just don't see what you are attempting to pontificate here.

You know me well. It was Timo Glock. Was Quick Nick still racing at that point? I'm not sure. I do know that this is one of the coolest videos on the internet. Courtesy of McLaren and "Quick" Nick Heidfeld.

Little to no difference, maybe more Mercedes podium finishes. Everyone here loves to point out that the #2 at Mercedes is just that, #2. What makes you think if RUS comes, Mercedes is suddenly going to let #2 race #1.

Whoever takes that #2 seat at Mercedes, we're going to be here again next year saying how they're just there to support HAM.

lol Button's 09 WDC is more attributed to luck than Lewis' '08 title. Rain is the equalizing element, if the other drivers are terrible then the talent will shine through.

If you are right they will keep BOT but I hope not. I'd like to see RUS learn from HAM. HAM is mature enough now to compete and teach. He will need a predecessor in a few years. Thinking he would still like to see MB succeed even after he leaves?
