Reading some of these horror stories makes me appreciate my marriage of nearly 36 years even more. I know that our situation is definitely not the norm anymore, but I can't imagine not having my wife, who is also my best friend, by my side every day.

It's not that abnormal. Divorce has consistently dropped for decades and I think it's 38% pre COVID. People are waiting later and with two incomes money is less of a problem so the success rate increased

I think the #1 stated reason for divorce is "sexual incompatibility", but I may be wrong!

Divorce rates are only going to the moon from here on out.

I'm just trying to do my part and save young men from making a YUGE mistake when they think with their small head and not their big head. Feminism has liberated women, but it has also liberated men from fulfilling their protector and provider roles by walking away from marriage. Go have fun just don't sign the marriage contract.

Prenuptial agreements could be worth their weight in gold, particularly for 2nd marriages and beyond. My father-in-law had a prenup drawn up for his 2nd marriage and it saved his kids a huge amount of grief after he passed away. His 2nd wife turned out to be a real biatch. Prenups work for the living, too.

Prenups can get tossed out in court. If the judge is having a bad day, you are shit out of luck.

Prevention is the best treatment. No marriage = no divorce

Not if the prenup is properly drawn up:

I believe in marital type relationships, but as long as the law is part of it, it’s a no go for me. I was married for 20 years but the last 10 was a shit show. And we kept a good facade which I realized in the end didn’t help me because outsiders thought everything was great, and it gave my wife the opportunity to concoct an alternate reality on how I blew up the relationship out of the blue, even suggesting that I might be homosexual. I’m still paying for that divorce financially.

Plenty of ways to have children outside of marriage like surrogates, or adoption. I understand as a single man, it’s more difficult because of all the asshole pedophiles out there.

If I could talk to my younger self, I would have done my best to convince myself not to get married and not believe in unicorns…..there aren’t any.

The more I read this thread, the more it's apparent men aren't doing their relationship due diligence prior to marriage.

I think a lot of guys in here that have been divorced are simply mad at themselves because they missed the obvious early signals that the relationship wasn't going to work out in the long run yet still got.married.

Not sure if this is a serous thread. Monogamy and holy matrimony is often a tradition in the lineage of a family. The generations of children that have grown up within families like these generally aspire to continue the tradition vs breaking it. So just as the OP here can't wrap his mind around why, personally I can't wrap my mind around why not.

Why would you point this out? Why can't we just continue our misogynistic shitting on women like they're all greed, evil, and only want to use men for their money?

This thread has plenty of incel neckbeard bullshit by men who think they're some sort of catch while ignoring all of their horrifyingly negative characteristics. If the women you consistently end being in a relationship with are assholes, it's because you are indeed a shitty asshole as well.

This thread also had one extreme example where the wife was horrible. However, for each example of the wife being horrible, you can easily find dozens where the husband is far worse.

I had a relative that got married to woman after dating for a few months and moving in together right away because she lost her job. After being helped out by the extended family, she kept expecting everything to be handed to them which didn't happen. They were divorced shortly after. When I was younger, I've heard and seen plenty of examples of domestic violence against women in the neighborhood. One neighbor frequently argued with his new wife until he murdered her one night.

Women really have so many things to look forward to marriage. As a man, if you're worrying about the relatively rare extreme cases where women do horrible things while married and after divorce... I don't even know.

Ugh

Feminism is for everyone. If you're threatened by the word or disagree, grow up.

1. No, feminism has not said that this arrangement is sexist or shamed it. What it has said is the expectation of only women staying at home is sexist and should be shamed. There's a huge difference between the two points. My wife stays at home and no one is shaming us.

For practical reasons, such as recovering from child birth, breast feeding, and the typical pay disparity (another fun feminist issue) between men and women, women tend to become the stay at home spouse. Outside of those practical reasons, either person in a marriage are capable of staying at home and raising kids.

2. What the actual fuck is wrong with you?

2. a. I would love to be able to hire people to handle all the harder chores around the house. This is a gender-neutral desire.

I big congratulations to you both! We marked our 52nd early this year. Heh!

I think there are good and bad folks on both sides of the gender aisle. I have witnessed 3 divorces including relatives and friends.

One friend divorced his wife for no apparent reason to us, except he told me one day that her boobs weren't big enough. She was one of the sweetest gals I ever met. It made no sense to me.

The wife of another friend divorced him, apparently because he was an inadequate provider. Never mind that they lived in a big, up-scale home in one of the nicest areas in town and she always drove a new luxury car. From my perspective, she was never satisfied with anything. She ended up inheriting millions from her mom, even fighting her sisters who were rightful heirs as well. They gave up and didn't fight, mostly because they were well off in their own right.

A close relative divorced his wife because all she did was spend his hard-earned income (from 2 jobs) while sitting on her fat ass at home, watching TV and reading scandal tabloids, all-the-while complaining that they couldn't pay all of their bills.

One of my old Army buddies divorced his wife for similar reasons - spend, spend, spend. She even chewed his ass out for "hiding" a 10 dollar bill in his wallet!

Greed is the root of all evil.

They are right about the OP trough, incel neck beard who brags about buying prostitutes.

Dude threw his pathetic two cents into the dating thread becuase he can't get anyone to date him. So I don't think marriage is going to a problem for him for a while. His million $ 1-series is safe from all of them gold diggers.
