Z4 Horrific Rattle from Dash
Hello! I have 1600 miles on my z4 m40i.
Has anyone has experienced a rattle from the dashboard, right from the top center area? So, it happens when driving on specific pavement, just slightly uneven asphalt. It's like a rattle of screws free on a plastic tray (best way to describe it). I got the car in to service once, but after a while rattle is back. I read on other forums that it's typical in BMW and has something to do with some elements that expand with heat, but sometimes the car does it when cold, sometimes after one hour drive. I had Bmw's for the last 15 years, never experienced anything like this with my 335i, 128i, 328d, 430i... Anyone experience the same or has some good info to share? Thank you all. |

Not had anything like that. I had a bad rattle from the passenger door trim, which was resolved by the dealer fitting a new door card.
Unfortunately, the source of rattles is sometimes deceptive - can you stop it by pressing anywhere with your finger? |

UPDATE: the rattle was not from the dashboard, nut from the plastic module where the rearview mirror is installed. Funny enough, I just had to push it in with my hands and it disappeared. Forever.

I had the same thing. The inset panel (screw cover maybe) was loose and just needed pushing in.
