They probably would; however, it is a long drive and I don't want to collect it during the night as I might miss something on inspection. Also, it was I that suggested Saturday so I did not feel rushed.

Anywho, when I take possession, I will have it about 2 hours before surrendering it for another week.

Hi everyone,

New user here

It's my first time making an order at the dealership from SoCal. My salesman told me that it's going to take about 4-5 months for me to receive the vehicle. I made the order on 07/10. It's been about nearly three weeks and I haven't heard back from the dealer about any updates. I called two weeks ago and was told that it's still pending authorization, so I can't get the VIN to check the order status online. Has anyone else experienced this before?

The next step is for the dealer to get a build allocation and provide you with a production number. I would call your sales person for an ETA on a production number. Once you have that you can call the BMW genius line to begin tracking online. There are several examples of actual timelines to give you an idea how long each step takes.

He did tell me that they don't give production numbers or something like that, but only VIN numbers whenever it's authorized. I probably will give another call this week and ask for the ETA.

The tracking timeline on bmwusa.com begins at an order/production stage prior to VIN assignment. Signing up/getting info from the Genius hotline is possible with only a production no. It sounds like your store may be unable to provide a production no. or scheduled build week because they don't have an available allocation. Try to gain some education about how the allocation process works.

Welcome. You should have gotten a production number to track your vehicle. You would log into mybmw and use that production number. The VIN will come later. Welcome to the forum. A few of us have posted our timelines. You can also check my forum thread for some additional info…. Thread starts with “Excited!”. What did you build?

You are not the only one, more than 2 months to have a potential date of production, after claiming and pushing and so on. Covid is still a good excuse. My dad bought the new 208 and less than 2 months between order and being in the garage...

Based on our current, vast experience; your dealer either does not have an allocation or is holding off for someone else. I suggest calling the Sales Manager and ask him to confirm the allocation was received AND for a production number. After all you put a 1k deposit down; they owe you service.

With the market changes, ecologic constraints etc especially in EU... less and less roadsters, less and less "sportive" cars, etc.. it will be a collector

That is total BS, btw..... you need to call them out on that. You don't get a VIN until it's in production.

My understanding is stores here get allocations at status 111 (Order Received/Order Accepted). I think they're saying, without saying, we don't have one for you but hope to get one soon.

Maybe 5er viewed as highest & best use of slots at Magna Graz. The chart I posted shows a significant sales increase.

I agree it is and the production number comes first. I believe the dealership took the deposit and is holding off using the allocation waiting for a higher priced car to be ordered.
