To provide some balance, I also had several very positive experiences with the service department at the dealership I switched to. The service advisor helped to get two major issues 90% covered by BMW even though I was out of warrantee. This included replacing an entire engine wiring harness for an intermittent rough idle, which was going to be ~$6,000, mostly labor for ~$600, and replacing the differential bushings that had dried out and cracked for a fraction of the actual invoice. This is where I’ll take my Z4 to be serviced. There are some good eggs out there too.

PPF install complete! They did an excellent job and the film is completely undetectable.

In other exciting news, I used my phone to open the car today so I could program the homelink remote. It’s a nice little feature when you’re in the garage but don’t happen to have your key with you. In theory I can also do it with my Apple Watch, but I haven’t figured that out yet.

Apparently not a "formatting error" -- the 40/20/40 split rear seat is listed in the 5/2020 pricing guide as a STD item on both models. If Item 465 shows up missing on mine, think I may have to have a chat re credit for omitted STD item ....

Pleiades Leader docks in Pt Hueneme the morning of July 6 -- so far has been right on schedule. Should take 2 days to process through the VPC if there is nothing to correct. All indications are that RAM module is on board but that could always be bad info, even though there is not a SALES STOP flag on the car. Then load onto a truck and 3-4 days to drive to Seattle with 48 hours for dealer prep. I've not yet gotten a date notification from the dealer, but hoping for Bastille Day pickup. Here's hoping ....

Yes, that pesky Executive package is in mine. Build was completed on May 4 and then sat for 5 weeks before getting on a ship. It's really hard to tell just exactly where it was and what was happening to it for all of that time. If I go by the BMW Garage info, then it sat for a week at the factory before being dispatched to the port, where it sat for another 4 weeks. It wasn't until 3 weeks post build completion that alarm bells began to sound when Genius folks kept giving me different info -- waiting for ship assignment (3 ships came and went); defective sensor; and then finally one spilled the beans about the defective RAM. At the point that it got on a ship (June 11) I not-so-gently prodded my SA who came back with the info that there was no "sales stop" on it and therefore RAM had to have been replaced before sailing. Genius has not been able to confirm or deny, just that car is in transit. So no idea what was happening at what point after the build was completed. Hoping for the best but will be pleasantly surprised if there are not further delays at VPC. I am asking SA to provide me with a detailed report of the car's status at the VPC as to any work that they do on it after offloading from the ship. A very disappointing experience for a "built to order" car that on paper checked nearly all the boxes.
