Z4 Sales in 2020

https://www.businesswire.com/news/ho...d%20in%202019.

Sales for the Z4:

4th Quarter 2020 - 196 vs. 934 for 2019

2020 Total Sales - 2371 vs. 3042

That's why we don't see many on the streets and why it's been so hard to get an allocation.

My guess is most of the sold units were produced or ordered by customers before 4/30.

Seems about right

Thats about right. Most vehicles that were not SUVs were down about 20% due to Covid impacts in 2020.

I like that they're rare!

The X3, X5 and 3 series continue to be the best sellers for BMW. The only thing stopping the X3 from selling more is that BMW neutered it so it won't compete against X5 sales (no remote start, no OTA, etc).

I own a Z4 and love it. But, demand is non existent here in Canada and I think resale value will tank as a result.

Thanks for the share. Really shows why nobody's really buying Z4s, they're buying the Supra version instead.

Mine was a January build. Purchased in March They pretty much dried up here after that. Was one of 3 cars the two BMW dealers had in stock.

Anytime

That's the case for the U.S., but its the other way for places like Canada and Europe.

I think in Canada both have been a poor seller.

Right, because 1, its Canada and 2, they're niche products.

With that said:

Canada

Z4
2019: 1,620
2020: 1,345
Total: 2,965

Supra
2019: 252
2020: 333
Total: 585

Total North America Sales

Supra
US (8,771) + Canada (585) = 9,356

Z4
US (5,305) + Canada (2,965) = 8,270

Where one does better in X, it's kinda off set by Y.

So, if in North America 8.270 Z4 were sold and since thats about 15% of BMW world market, in Europe which is 43% of BMW world market, about 23.000 Z4 were sold.
Well, I don't see that many around here. As far as I know maybe 3 or 4 in my area.

Where are you getting the 1,345 and 5,305 for US sales? The number shown on Businesswire is 2,371 YTD 2020.

The pits, for months.

I'm working with the largest dealership in the states, San Antonio, and they have no clue when they might get one for the Z4. Talked to my adviser yesterday.

Got a call into Valencia BMW. Will talk to the internet manager today.

Supra commercials on US TV were common for a period... and well done.

I've never seen a commercial for the Z4. I'm OK with that, keeping the Z4 a specialty, limited production vehicle. I certainly get a lot of stares when driving. People wonder what kind of "exotic" they are looking at.

https://www.goodcarbadcar.net/bmw-z4-sales-figures/

U.S. Z4
2019: 2,941
2020: 2,364
Total = 5,305

https://www.goodcarbadcar.net/toyota...sales-figures/

U.S. Supra
2019: 2,884
2020: 5,887
Total = 8,771

U.S. Zupra
Total = 14,076 (Goodcarbadcar)
Total = 14,184 (BMW Press release)

Edited: On another note, depending on the source, numbers from Canada are all over the place. I'm just going to stick with the U.S. for the time being until we get official numbers from Toyota & BMW CA.

Last edited by supra93; 01-13-2021 at 01:33 PM.. Reason: Removed Canada's numbers/questionable numbers figures.

If about 8200 Z4 were sold in North America until now and 60% of the Magna production were Z4, been close to 23000 Z4 and supra build till now, then of the 13800 Z4 produced (with this data) it means 60% of the world produced Z4 were sold on North America.
If BMW sells 15% of their cars in the US, they must be very motivated to send as many Z4 to North America as possible. Is one of their best sellers.
