Its just stupid. Literally their top and most brand loyal customers are likely gen x'ers and boomers. I don't see how anyone in the board room would think this would garner positive press/reactions. I said it in another thread, but I seriously think they let Audi or Mercedes take over their social media, these ads are like self-sabotage.

Furthermore, at least on some other car forums, there's this idea that Boomers don't use Twitter. Has anyone noticed some tweets coming from the US government the last couple of years? I should think there's quite a large portion of that generation well- aquainted with social media. My head still spins at BMW going after what's likely the lions share of their customer base. Boomers aren't the seniors the previous generation was. My Dad did 72 push ups on his last birthday- and just bought a new Audi this year to go with his boat. BMW is really screwing this up.

It appears they are trying to be “edgy” on social media but lacks the talent to pull it off. Instead it comes off as overtly aggressive and out of touch. It reminds of me the Undercover Boss episode with Kylo Ren pretending to be an intern and just starts saying “OK, Boomer” to everyone without really knowing how to use the phrase. That’s where BMW is at right now.

From Jalopnik...

BMW Launches Bizarre Marketing Campaign To Defend Its Ugly Car
https://jalopnik.com/bmw-launches-bi...s-u-1845687542

My 2 cents...the Jalop headline is clickbait for sure, but I also think it's not gonna work. If you need to start a marketing campaign to defend your design, time to find a new designer.

A little off topic, but does anyone know how much it costs to charge one of these? I know electric rates vary in different States and countries but does anyone who owns an electric car know the answer. I know when my home A/C is running my electric bill is significantly higher.

Sorry if already posted. Here's a piece from Jalopnik on BMW's apparent marketing strategy for the iX. Interesting, entertaining, and sad, all at once.

And, as is customary for Jalopnik, the comments are worth reading.

It seems like charging an EV itself is not more expensive than fueling a traditional vehicle. You're probably saving money with an EV if you look strictly at refueling/charging.

I love bucking convention so much, I'll challenge myself to even buck my own convention! I'll try and find something I like in something I dislike, and vice versa.

In that spirit...

All the forum advocates for "hips" and bulging fenders should be singing this vehicle's praises! Look at where the rearmost pillar is as compared to the edge of the fender. What is that, six-plus inches of fender flare? The filler/charge door is pointing at the sky the fenders are so stretched!

I'm trying.

This is so horrifyingly ugly that it's actually hurting my desire for an X7. All set to order in February but now I'm thinking " do I really want to be a part of this?!"

Not to continue to beat a dead horse, but if you need to launch a marketing campaign to defend your car’s design... Well, you certainly made some choices.

And this is coming from a former i3 driver.

And as usual, it's electric, therefore we get treated with the stupid spaceship of the future interior. I want an electric car with a normal, comfy interior, thank you very much.

Wow. That front end is something out of a nightmare.

I missed the squared wheel arches. I guess taking design clues from the Aztek is bold in some sense.

Having grown up in a General Motors family...BMW reeks of GM. I really get the feeling it is a company with bloated middle management, "yes men" who let shitty designs like this pass through the ranks, bureaucracy, and greedy executives who don't value the engineers. The amount of arrogance I see out of Munich is off putting.

It's unfortunate because growing up I always viewed BMW as the antithesis of GM. Back then BMW was the industry trend setter, their vehicles were head and shoulders superior to the competition, they could do no wrong.

I think their new marketing tag line should be “I buy BMW because I love the look of gophers.”

You guys here at Bimmerpost are even more conservative than my 70+ parents. God forbid that BMW makes a car that doesn't look like an E39

In my opinion the iX is both bold and beautiful. Kudos to BMW for daring to challenge conventions

It’s an insulting line to take. It’s like “our designs aren’t the problem, you’re the problem”.

It didn't used to be like that. Back in the e46 days, a basic Bmw 325i felt like a sports car compared to other sedans. Now it's just a cookie cutter, boring car.

It has nothing to do with being conservative. It has to do with the fact that this design language is flat out ugly. Cars are reflections of us. It's like clothing. Why would you want clothing that looks disjointed, dysfunctional, and schizophrenic? This busy nonsensical design with huge fake air intakes even though it's an electric car is so idiotic and poser-like. The design cues are not congruent and they make no sense.

Just look at the sketch monkey post that I posted a couple days ago. He describes it in detail. Like I said before, this car looks like a beaver having an orgasm. If that's what you want to wear, more power to you. Maybe you find beavers attractive. The rest of humanity likes to have cars that look classy, sophisticated, sporty, muscular, athletic, and attractive.

Aren't the ever-growing grills driven by the Chinese market? Maybe they will reconsider if sales tank in other regions.
