Had the top down during a drive. Went to park and could not put the top up!!! After several attempts and making sure trunk was shut I rolled up my windows all the way and then engaged the movement and that worked!

Anyone else have this issue?

Sorry to hear the problem. Never have this issue on mine. Hope it is just a signal glitch and will not reappear again.

Hoping the same thing. It was a cold day... not sure if it has anything to do with it. Hasn't happened since... so... i'm keeping an eye out for it.

Agree it is most likely a software glitch with sensor.

I swear it couldn't have happened at a worse time. Traffic was so bad that I was already running late for my dental appointment, and then I couldn't get my top up. Area isn't exactly the best to boot so no way I was going to go in for this appt with the top down. Was so relieved that the top went up. My appointment was at 0800 and I figured it out AT 0800.

I think that you should still have this top issue looked at by your dealer on your next visit.

For someone who is still waiting on their car to get a RAM installed...this is terrifying. Why can't BMW get their electrical designs right??

Remember that you mostly hear about people with issues and don't hear many people posting about not having a problem with their top even though the don't have the issue. How many people have said they have an issue with their top? I have only seen one post. All cars have issues, some more than others, but I really don't think that one person having an issue with their top is something to freak out about. The chances are that you won't have the same issue.

Agree with COKen. Additionally, the RAM issue is not electrical but a supplier issue. With all these cars having multiple computers, software and coding issues have now overtaken mechanical. Back in the day, a problem with the top would be a strap or brace instead of a sensor.

Agreed here... this issue was a one time thing. Scary... don't get me wrong. Happened at a bad time in a not so great place. So... I hope it won't happen again, and I certainly will be talking with the dealer next time I go in for service (in 4000 miles).

More bells and whistles.. more problems. That's just reality. BUT honestly I haven't had a repeat of the issue since. still lovin the ride.

Completely agree. I didn't mean to imply the RAM was an electrical issue. I was referring to the convertible not working.

Today my ragtop froze in a partially open position and would not respond to either the open or close switch positions. I went online to see if anyone else had this problem and discovered this thread.
I then did the same. Put both windows in the closed position, and once I did this the convertible top began to work once again.

Maybe that was my post?

Last year the control module failed for the top on my 2020 Z4. That also caused the battery to run down overnight while the car was parked in my garage. I had to boost the car to get it running again.

The replacement part took 2 months to arrive. I seem to be the only person on here that had this issue.

Was this via the key fob from outside the car or using the switch inside?

If it was the fob then sometimes you have to walk a few yards away, return and unlock the car before trying again.

So far the only issue I have had with my Z4 is that my wife falls asleep on really long road trips. My SA has yet to find a fix for this problem.

My SA suggested driving at high speeds with the top down and blasting Bruce Springsteen on the HK sound system as a possible fix to drown out the sound of the snoring.

This also happened to me today. The top stopped about a 2 inches from fully closed and would not respond to the switch. After reading this thread I raised the windows to the top and the was able to open and close the top normally. It seems like the passenger window motor would engage but the windows were already at the bottom of their travel - like it didn't sense that they were at the bottom.
