I ordered mine off of Amazon and got the complete set installed. The knob and the iDrive multimedia dial was installed by a pro, but not at the dealership as they said they wouldn't install 3rd party accessories.

Looks good, feels good, blinds you depending on where the sun is lol!

The guy that did mine also was able to keep the leather backing instead of the cheap plastic one that came with the accessory.

Though we were good with no storm damage. Turns out two SUV's Suburban & CX-5 were dead and are being totaled by the insurance company. Could not get the Suburban I wanted on short notice so chose a Expedition MAX & picked it up the same day.

Replaced the CX-5 with a Jeep as it was a redundant SUV. Jeep will be mostly a beach car & will live there.

Sorry to hear about your vehicles. Hope the Expy is an upgrade for you - I went from a suburban to a 19 Expedition Max and couldn’t be happier (a few minor niggles aside). I know the new ones have the touchscreen, eliminating a lot of the tactility.

Too bad about the damage, but good that you were able to get them totaled and replaced without too much difficulty. Supply problems seem to be easing finally!

Just finished a 6 month process of working with my dealer to resolve an electrical problem with my truck resulting from water leaking into the cab. Never thought it would take as long as it did to resolve.

Its pretty much a wash. Chevy had more power 420/375 but the Max has more features like power memory seat, pedals, steering wheel. Got an upper mid level with the smaller touch screen tablet that still has buttons for stuff that gets changed a lot. Agree, big tablet no buttons kept me out of the King Ranch.

Have had an EX (Max) before & got 10 years & 200,000 miles with no major problems out of it.

M4 has never been to the beach. Almost took it but it does not have a sticker that will let you onto the island during seriously bad weather.

Since me & my son in law were stuck there & out of transportation one of my other son in laws with a sticker came to rescue us.

The island allocates property owner 5 stickers per family. I give one to each son in law & use two for myself. One on the dead Suburban & one on the Z4.

I stopped at a body shop (not for the Z4) and the shop owner and one of their techs didn't know what the Z4 was. Their first guess was a M2.

Because the auto world have written it off as an inferior more “chill” competitor to a Boxster, especially since it doesn’t come with a manual. So it’s not a “pure” sports car. The thing is that Boxsters not only cost more but they’re nigh impossible to actually buy compared to Z4s. So even if you wanted one, good luck getting one at a decent price.

I actually test drove a 2021 Boxster manual and preferred the Z4. Love it and drive the heck out of mine. Was surprised based on the general press reaction to the two cars. Just a reminder to go test drive cars and don’t just rely on what everyone else says.

Yes i did, you have to be careful with the idrive controller.
somehow the guy who installed mine managed to break it. We had to remove the entire center console and buy a new module to fix it 2ful days of work with 2people.

I had the same experience with my Z4 when I pulled up alongside a Porsche Boxster S in a gas station. The owner of the Porsche asked me which model my car was and I replied that it was the new Z4 that was faster than his Porsche. You should have seen the look on his face, it was priceless!

I know that priceless look all too well. Back in 04-05 I beat a 911 Carrera 4S off the line and in the quarter with my '04 350Z. We stopped and chatted and he was aghast that my car cost 25% of his.

I'd argue the M40i is more like the 911 notwithstanding common Z4 comparisons to the Boxter.

As a previous 911 owner I find that comparison very interesting. I personally never would have even made it. I don’t think BMW has either.

Personally I think that BMW's advertising department is so focused on their electric vehicles that they even know what the Z4 even is and take advantage of the large price differences between the Z4 and the comparable Porsches.

I would have to agree, I find the Porsche comparison more toward an upper end Boxster than a 911.

Had both a 718S & a Carrera 4S in the past. Quick & dirty:

Z4 M40i is a GT car
Boxster is a sports car
Carrera 4S money will buy 2 Z4 M40i's.

Found for longer trips the Z4 was perfect & the 718S not so much. There is not much that a lower to mid level Boxster can do that the Z4 can't.

You can buy 2 Z4's for the price of a Carrera 4S so I don't see any reason to compare them.
