Interesting he found it a better drivers car than the M2C. Not sure how true this is but I will take that.

Love the Goose

Ive been watching his reviews for about 6 months now and he’s the best in the business. He’s the only guy who puts the car on a lift and looks over the hardware to tell people what’s going on under the car after he drives it. Thing is he’s not a BMW fanboy at all - he tells it as he sees it and his Z4 endorsement was excellent.

That Doug guy with his “Doug score” is bogus.

Long live the Goose!

Couldn't agree more. Some of his reviews are quite brilliant. A very articulate, knowledgeable and insightful guy.

PS Would love to hear his views on the M40i version vs the 30i, which he reviewed. I'm wavering between the two - although not buying until next year

i ended up watching a bunch of his reviews after this one. He has a supra review also, and basically says the supra is the M car everyone has been asking for.... so I'd guess a Z4 m40i review would be quite similar. He seems to say that the m2 competition is just not as good or for someone who just wants more tail out insanity instead of the supra/z4 being just a better sports car.

Hearing him talk about the problems with traffic and having cars ahead of you in a lot of his reviews, really makes me feel better about ordering a 30i , and I don't have nearly as many open roads as he does in his videos

I can't wait to get my hands on my Z4 M40i. This excellent review of the 30i has shown they are both very impressive cars.

He's got it spot on, BMW layers their cars better than others. People say Porsche makes better drivers cars and maybe they are slightly but they don't have the luxury or utility layered into them

I love his videos and reviews but I don't always agree with him.

When the 'best' drivers car BMW has a terrible 8 speed ZF gearbox there are 2 possibilities

1. The reviewer is questionable
2. This brand have lost their way

Or
3. Both!

I am a manual driver, always will be. I've since returned to my 135i however, the ZF 8sp in my Giulia lease really impressed me. Fast shifts, good logic, and smooth everyday operation. I especially love how it shifted like a manual car instead of meshing gears together. While the ZF is no 6sp row and go, it certainly is a fantastic modern automatic.

I completely agree. My experience so far is that it is in BMW that the characters of a car change so much between comfort and sport/performance mode

The ZF in the Z4 is excellent. And yes, I have been driving manuals for 30 years.

Agree - the 8-spd ZF in my M240i is excellent. So much smoother than the 7-spd DCT was in my 135is (yet shifts just as fast) and so much faster than the 6MT in my M235i. After having driven manuals for 25 yrs, I now get more joy out of the new paddle-shift autos than manual (and I use the paddles 100% of the time).

I can't imagine anyone who has driven the 8-spd ZF call it a bad transmission.

IMO an auto transmission only car does not fit the definition of a drivers car.

It can shift fast, get to 60 quick and save you from traffic sure but it won't ever be a "drivers car".

That's a pretty good review.

BMW better bring an M version of this car if they really want a serious hit.

I've driven both. The power and sound is awesome in the M40 but the 30i handles better. the weight really does make a big difference in the way it feels.

Interesting, I've heard one or two others say the same. I'm undecided between the two. Have only driven the 30i, waiting on a test in the 40i. Can you elaborate on how you found the handling in both, and how did you find the power delivery in the 30i having driven both? Thx
