Time to book your Mexico vacations....

Wow! Mexican authorities captured the son of 'El Chapo' but were quickly forced to release him after citywide heavy fighting erupted between the cartel and government forces. There are pictures of cartel members patrolling the streets with automatic weapons and truck mounted 50 cals.

A couple years ago we went to Cabo. From the airport it’s about a 2 hour ride to Cabo. along the way we saw several of those ‘militia’ type armed trucks rolling around and numerous checkpoints with guards, soldiers armed with rifles/ shotguns. I assume they were there to allow safe passage for tourists and to keep the riff raff out. Once we got to Cabo security wasn’t a concern and the fishing was fantastic.

I don't see a direct correlation.
Different country, different problems.

Oh look - apparently I no longer have to go to Sudan or Somalia to see technicals. Now I can get them just south of the border.

What a shit hole.

Not shocked at all. Reminds me of the two clowns from NY that went on a world bike tour to prove that people around the world are nice and we are all equal........... And got themselves murdered by muslim extremists in one of the former Soviet Stan countries. I think it was Uzbekistan.

Thus, we now see from an internal document of the Mexican government an admission that Mexico has essentially lost control over every important populated area in Mexico outside Mexico City and a few others, and particularly the most sensitive areas of the U.S.-Mexican border."

By comparison, as of last year, the Taliban controlled or contested 46 percent of the districts in Afghanistan’s civil war

I love Cancun, I've been going there annually for the past 15 years. It will take a lot to break that tradition.

Eh...I'm shooting from the hip here, but thinking about the number of annual tourists to Mexico, against the number of tourists killed by cartel actions I would venture a guess that one is more likely to die in a car crash than by some bandito shooting. All the resort areas seem pretty secure and away from the "action".
