Considering the August 2017 SORP I wouldn't be surprised. No data to back this up other than logic.

Oh, I thought I'd read production fall '17. If it's 2018, then probably not at the show.

It's a fall 2017 SORP, it's debuting next year. Detroit may not be the likeliest but it's not impossible is all. Besides, the US is the capital of SUV sales so if there's anywhere to debut it that's it.

The next X3 will get a X3M, not the current one.

Your likely right, it's too far ahead of launch for debut historically for BMW. I just think it would make the most sense to launch it in the hottest SUV market.

Wouldn't they have to show the standard new x3 first before rolling out the ///m ?

Answer is no they won't be showing it.

No the X3 will have its World Premiere at the IAA in September.
NAIAS will have the World Premiere of the 5er. That is all.
But there will be premieres during NAIAS for CES and Geneva respectively.

Will there be a concept of the X3 debuted before then?
