2 rear calipers per wheel on Ferrari's and Lambos?

Hey guys,

noticed one thing during BMFeast, what's the second small caliper on the rear brake disc on some of the supercars?

Those are twin (or dual) caliper brakes.

I remember seeing a picture of a car with two brakes the other day, but I can't recall where I saw it. I think it may actually be another brake. There is probably a limit to how long you can make a caliper before the ends of the pads start narrowing down to nothing. Having a curved caliper is probably cost prohibitive and difficult to install/maintain. Of course, this is just conjecture on my part, but it makes sense to me.

It's the parking brake, there's no need for extra stopping power on the rear brakes.

Most cars with 4-wheel disc brakes have a small drum brake inside the rear rotors that is used as the handbrake. There have been some cable-operated "mechanisms" (the one's I've seen have been rube goldbergesque) as well.

Drum brakes make better handbrakes, and better low speed brakes as well, compared to discs. So why do supercars have caliper handbrakes? I don't know for certain but would hazard a WAG that the inside of the rotor is packed solid with other foo.
