After almost 2 years, I got pulled over my a cop for not having my front license plate. I told him it was in the trunk, which was true. After checking registration and license for awhile, he gave a ticket. It's a non-moving violation and is $25. I tried holding back my enthusiatic relief when told me of the minor fine.

Hmmm...still debating if I should stick it on or not.

Pathetic that they have enough time to pull you over for something as dumb as that. Then to take even more time to write a 25 ticket is just dumb.

Hopefully it wasn't a local cop from his hometown, because now he'll be on the lookout for him and pull him over constantly to pay for his donuts and coffee.

You better check your ticket closer. I got one of those $25 tickets, then a stupid processing fee, some other fee too. By the time is all said and done, like $80. Depending on your City/County it may vary, but check the back of the ticket to be sure.

I've been stopped twice in the past month, both times by state police. Got warnings each time. Day after the second one someone backed into my front bumper and left indents from the screws that mount their plate.

Keep it off and next time you get pulled over just pull the old..." WHAT!! You mean it is gone???!!!! Are you kidding me??? It must have fallen of or gotten stolen. Thanks sooooo much for telling me so I can ge another one as soon as possible."

Sorry to hear about it... Ive been going strong for 3 months now with no front plate (also in VA). Luckily no ticket yet...

Let us know if its just $25, or if it has added court fees and everything...

If its just $25, Ill keep my plate off until I run into a problem...

Someone should lobby the state to eliminate front plates altogether as a cost savings measure.

Something similar happens to my 530Xi last week. My car was in a shopping plaza and the guy parking opposite to me overshot his spot and left a screw indent on my until-then-totally-smooth front bumper.

it's not worth trying to fight those a-holes. there's a record of you being pulled over for that violation in their database.

this comes up time and time again on other car forums re: tint, plates, exhaust...even suspension.

you don't have to put your front plate on, but you can't try to make idiots out of police officers, either. these guys know what they're doing. next time they pull you over for the same offense, be prepared to grab some ankle.

I tried that in France in 1995 because I truly didn't have the mounting bolts. Those damn gendarmes at the Channel Tunnel demanded my passport, put me through the third and fourth degrees, held me up for almost an hour, searched the truck three times, chattered incoherently amongst themselves for a quarter hour, and then had the gaul (gall) to say "Have a nice day" when they let me go.

Va here also with no front plate ...and no problems with my 8 month old e92 or my 02 e46. keeping my fingers crossed

yeah, let us know if the fine is greater than 25 bucks.

To the OP: did you get the ticket in your local area, as in your normal route or somewhere outside your ordinary driving route? Reason I'm curiuous to know is whether this cop has been patrolling this area and he saw you many times before but waited until now to give you a ticket? He may have given you a few opportunities to get the plate but since you didn't do it, he decided to give you a ticket now.

It seems that the majority of front plate and tint tickets are given near a driver's home or place of work after running the car for awhile.

Front license plate I agree. Window tint depends.

If the tint is really low. Like many who seem to be doing 5% on these boards and such. Then that should be stopped. At night you wont be able to see well and therefore causes some issues.
