This is me. Order of operations, couldn't tell you. Shid, the vast majority of anything in Algebra I/II, I did not retain. The reverse engineering and problem solving is what stuck with me. I'm not paid to know everything, I'm paid to be resourceful.

Analogy time: The people that post questions here without googling = other employees and my superiors. The guy that googles the question, researches and finds the solution = me + paycheck.

In my career as an IT pro, the line I heard most often was, "How do you know all this stuff?"

I just told them it was experience. But a good portion of the time it was knowing how to use Google.

x3 + 1 and (y4x2 + 2xy – y)/(x – 1) = 12 is far more critical as you can see. And no, I just copied and pasted. I said they taught me algebra. I never said I retained it.
It’s not so much the fundamentals of algebra that is taught, but I like to think it taught me problem solving in a logical manner, and logic it’s self.
It's just meant in jest for sure. Not a dig to those that are clearly smarter and can clearly math better than i ever could dream of.

Those that can't math just blame algebra.

When I worked for the Blue Death Star (at&t) our Motorola rep schooled me on these. Victrola was the record player for your home. Motorola started as a company producing radios.

My dad started installing and repairing car radios and all the accessories in 1941, his was the only Delco authorized repair shop in Connecticut for many years. It was quite the education growing up.

"What is this thing, never seen one before!"

I legit thought it was some photoshop or joke. Was too fixated on trying to read the numbers on the shifter. Thought maybe it's what an 8track player is, didn't even register when someone said "record".

I've used a record player before and remember it being delicate, the arm bar thing but how does it not skip when the vehicle is in motion?

We used to have demolition derbies with those in a friend's basement. Fire them up and run them straight at each other to see them crash. Good fun.

My favorite STEM toy from the '70s! I could spend hours building stuff with mine until my fingers were raw from fastening all the nuts and bolts.

You mention Erector Set today and here is what most people think of:

You asking me? Cuz I'm only useful to you from cassette tapes and cd's in cars lol.

I just googled the yellow sony walkman player I had for CD's - used, $15.

Sony tape player? Hundreds of dollars used, wtf? Even found one that's still sealed and they asking for 50k.
