4 New Tires = 4 Damaged Wheels

Took the Z4 for new tires at Arrowhead BMW thinking they would take better care of the wheels than a local tire shop. Boy was I wrong, they damaged every single wheel. It's not huge but I didn't have a scratch on any wheel. They are contacting me tomorrow and will ask me to bring it in. I am sure they will want to do wheel repair, just not sure I want to settle for that. Anyone else have a similar experience? If so what was the resolution? Example in the picture, three of the 4 look the same, one has a minor blemish.

Haven't had this experience yet either, but holy crap that sucks. Hope that they can take care of you and whoever was working on your baby gets some much needed training.

Dealers always take pictures or shoot videos when a car is dropped off for service so make sure they take responsibility and don't let them off the hook!

The dealer should refinish the wheels at his expense and they should look brand new. if you aren't happy with their appearance after they do the repair then you can always demand new wheels.

I’m not that much of a stickler but that is NOT minor in my book. I would be pissed. I had this happen many years ago on a Porsche and they were refinished at their cost and ever since then, I take pictures of each wheel and let wheel place/SA know they have no damage or what damage is there. Ironically the best rated place for taking care of wheels with no damage in my area is Costco Tire!! They have put tires on many of my cars, including 295/30-18 on my Carrera and never a mark.

I've had wheels repaired in the past with great results. However, it looks like your damage is on the clear machined part of the wheel. I don't know how they could repair that because it's covered by clear coat rather than paint that can easily cover filled repairs. There's probably a way that I'm unfamiliar with but I would perform a very close inspection after repair, looking for a difference in the color or machined pattern.

Ouch. Sorry. I do my tires at discount tire because the prices are lower, but now I’m definitely not doing them at the bmw dealership.

Minor Knick that can be easily repaired by a competent professional.

Wheel Reair Results

The wheel repair did not go well. You can see the wheel lip was not rounded properly and they used a metallic paint where the wheel is actually machined clear coated aluminum. They are ordering a new set of wheels.

That's great news, that they are resolving this for you. I had damage just like this from a visit to Discount Tire with my last Z. I let it slide, reluctantly. When I go back for my next set of tires they will be brief me very thoroughly on how they intend on not damaging my car.

Looks like they tried to do a spot repair when they should’ve sent the wheel out for full refinishing.

I love discount tire’s warranty. They’ve bought me many tires over the years and I’ve never had them damage a rim. I’m not sure if all discount tire locations do this, but they’ve let me buy the warranty for OEM tires after inspection and I’m getting ready to use it for a nail in one of my current tires.

Like others have mentioned, I also take video of the car every time I drop it off for service and I inspect the wheels and body before I drive off. I’m glad you caught it and that they aren’t disputing doing the damage. I’m sure they’ll make it right and also re-train or replace the technician.

I find out who is doing the work. Give him a $20 tip before the works done. At the same time I ask the manager or service writer to come out and inspect the wheels for imperfections while taking a video. Sounds like a but over the the top anal but so far it has worked for me..PS clean and polish the wheels before you go to the shop

Issue Has Been Resolved!

The wheels are back to mint condition. A huge thanks to Brent @ Arrowhead BMW for making everything right with a new set of wheels. He listened and understood my desire to keep my Z4 as pristine as possible. Just in time for perfect top down weather in AZ.

Three of mine are damaged when the dealer put new tires on. Just waiting for the weather to be terrible to get them fixed…. Dealer took responsibility.

Have you seen the videos of C8 Corvettes falling off lifts in GM service departments?! Nothing surprises me anymore.
