Z4 sleep/wake noises

Still getting used to BMW’s keyless entry options, due to running out to mailbox (keep that key on the fob) I would always set the proximity unlock/lock off just walking past.

So I’ve disabled proximity approach unlock and auto mirror folding.

Here’s the thing though, even with those options turned off, if I have the key in pocket/hand I will hear the car making noises as I walk by. While it does not unlock, I can hear whirling type noise from something getting “ready” or self adjusting.

It’s obvious to me the fob and car are always kinda looking for each other at all times.
Does anyone know what is being woken up automatically by the fob?

I hang the fob on inside door from garage about 6-7ft away but might have to relocate the fob to other end of house to minimize unwanted electrical draw from unintentional car interaction.

I believe the fob goes to sleep if not moved for 45 seconds. This feature to stop proximity thieves from skimming from outside your house.
Mine is kept in a faraday box as well for extra security.

My guess is the fuel pump.

My Expedition does this when opening the door...(I've also heard it doing it just randomly with the key no where near it).

I suspect most modern vehicles have such routines. I discovered an unexpected noise from the rear of my Outback multiple times while parked in the garage, turned out to be some sort of pump pressurizing the evaporative system to test for vapor leaks.

i don't know, but it's something that uses a lot of power

When i get my car washed and the detailer has the key in his pocket while washing, i sometimes get a low battery error because of the key going in and out of proximity of the car so often.

When he leaves the key inside while washing, there's no issue.

with both the Z4 and my Expedition, if I leave the key in my pocket, the vehicle lock/unlocks repeatedly, with folding mirrors.
