Anyone put in calls or requests to sales associates yet? I just sent mine an email about this. Mark up is so extreme on Supras (and my wife hates them) I thought I'd upgrade the s30i and go manual again since I dearly miss it.
I bought the z4 but missing the manual has kept me looking at other 6spd cars constantly, even the hefty sized and priced G80. |

And, because Toyota is only offering the manual in the 3.0, expect it only on the M40i.

Isn’t that what 99% of stuff on message boards is? . And yes, since I don’t work for BMW…. And would be fired if I did!

I do wish BMW success with this, that the car gets more widely known thanks to the coverage and buzz of a manual and that they sell more Z4's (whether with automatic or manual).

It seems that a large amount of BMW's advertising is centered on their all electric lineup and the Z4 has been and will always be a step child and totally ignored. This car sells mostly because of word of mouth and having a group of enthusiasts that want a great roadster.

I was at a cars and cocoon Knoxville a few months back and a couple younger guys stopped and asked what it was. I said it was a Z4 by BMW. They looked confused. Then I said, “It’s the Supra that BMW makes.” They had a eureka moment and it all came together.
The conversation went to the looks and price. Apparently they found the Z4 better looking but asked if it was worth the premium over a Supra. Yes, yes it is. |

"If I’m being honest, the Z4 M40i is better to drive than any non-M BMW. It’s far more fun than the M440i, M340i, and even the M240i. It’s all in the chassis, too. Rather than being built on the same modular CLAR architecture as ever other rear-wheel drive BMW, the Z4 uses a bespoke sports car chassis, designed from the ground up to be a lightweight, rigid, two-seat roadster. And you can tell. It feels far better connected to both the road and its driver than any other BMW product on sale. Sure, it’s steering is numb but it’s precise, its B58 engine has more power than its lightweight chassis needs, and its convertible top lets all the sensations of driving into your brain." Yes, I immediately noticed that comment and forwarded the article to one of my best friends who recently purchased an M240i. I can't wait to hear his reaction! |

I drove his Portimao Blue M240i and it is a beautiful car. It was fun to drive, however it lacked the "WOW" factor we have in the Z4 M40i. I see people looking at my Z4 wherever I drive and the few times I drove his M240i nobody gave it a second look.
Maybe if they came out with a convertible model I would take another look at it. |

I might order a manual M40i if it becomes reality. I'm going to have a hard time doing it for the manual alone - let's face it, finance rates are much higher than they were - so I hope BMW makes it a little more special so I don't have to work so hard to convince myself I need it. But if it comes down to it, I'll work pretty darn hard.

I'm just curious how the driving experience stacks up to an M car. I will likely let go of my M3 for the Z4 manual. I miss being in a roadster very much, but I am somewhat concerned that the Z4 won't have the dynamic edge and bratty-ness of the M3.
