Has anyone looked into the "Alpha One" amp and speakers from Bimmertech? Been tossing this idea around some.

But i'm guessing around 3000 euro, the cheapest dsp upgrade was around 1100euro already

he already did some research.
And apearantly his supplier in germany has done some z4's already. They warned him to add some vibration dampening between the panels, so hopefully it will work out fine
Yeah I’m pretty happy with my addition without any replacement. But it’s still lacking the clarity I expect from HK.

Never heard of Aloha. I saved some money and went with the prefab sub and amp rather than having a custom box built. Not sure a higher quality amp sub would matter that much given the limitations of the existing system.

the sound guy was also surprised how bad the quality was for HK speakers, he also expected them to be better.

The HK system in the M3 (2023) was much better.

Sorry, wrote that from my phone. Meant Alpha One by Bimmertech? Its all plug and play and designed specifically to work alongside the amps already installed in the G series.

Gotcha. I’ve had a hard time finding an objective review of Alpha One. I’d rather go with a more reputable set if I were to spend $5k on upgrading all or some of the speakers.

What would cause a Bizzz Bizzz sound in the trunk? Noticed it when I had the trunk open & the system playing a bit loud.

skihatch door on the trunk side vibrates in my car, i put some double side tape between the door to get it to stop making noice.

The box for the roof also makes some noise, might be that too

i got 2 proposals:

1st
This is the standard upgrade kit from audison with some added soundampening and setup of the dsp.

2nd
thisis basically the same with some upgrades for some of the parts:

BMWKabelboom HK(install without cutting) 325,00 €
Mounting parts 125,00 €

Work hours: 980,00 €
Total: 4.336€

In both cases additional cables are added so i can easily add a sub box in the trunk if i want at a later stage.
Not sure yet which one it will be

*edit* apearantly the secont offer is not an option, because it would take a lot of work to pull new cables to the doors for very little gains.
So it will most likely be the first option, with some minor modifications.

The audio system is the one of the few parts of my Z4 order that I think won't be able to match up with my current E450 Cab--but I will give it a chance of course. The premium Burmester system is incredible, and easily the best stock audio system I've experienced in a car.

My wife has the base audio package in her 2020 540i, and I think it sounds pretty good. Just got the best I could with a convertible.

the base audio package in my 440 GC sounded better than the HK in the Z4 in my opinion. I don't think they spent much time on it when designing the Z4

getting my setup done next week, curious to see if it will be a huge improvement

I got lucky, the guy doing the install is recieving training next week.
The guys from the audio tuning software will be there and he asked if he could use my car for this. So the sound should be set up perfectly afterwards

Toyota offers a JBL 500 watts, 12-speaker system in some of their Supra models, has anyone ever had the opportunity to listen and compare it to our HK 408 watts, 12-speaker system?

If yes, how does it compare and do you know which speakers they used and where they were located?

After living with this car for a few weeks now I've come to believe that a big part of why it sounds so flabby is the rear speakers (I'm not going to even use the term subwoofers, as they are not) are in a poorly damped resonant cavity. The whole back wall is not structurally rigid. It creates a definite muddy mess and though I've not run any frequency sweeps there clearly is a very nonlinear response.

Top that off with an EQ with about 2-3 bands less than it needs (lowest bass frequency 100 - really?) and it makes it really hard to remove those flabby frequencies.

I would suspect removing the rear panel and getting in there with some dynamat and upgrading the rear speakers would be a night and day difference, but I have no idea how to do that.

I continue to watch this thread with great interest - thanks for everyone posts.

I read this morning in the same topic but in the 3 series forum that the “woofers” in that case under the front seats don’t handle frequencies below 70 Hz which explains why the low end in the Z is non-existent. The addition of a sub like I did seems necessary especially with the flimsiness of that part of the vehicle that houses the woofers. I’m still not satisfied however with the quality of the sound, specifically the crispness of the mids. I may replace the door speakers as the next step.

Honestly, I am slightly worried about the HK system that I opted for in the M40i now. My 30i has the base system and, honestly, it sounds GREAT. Deep and crisp bass (other than some slight shaking behind the seats and trunk) ... I was definitely hoping that the HK system would be a significant improvement hence the greater price tag. We'll see.

IMHO, you will hear an improvement. Especially after you play with the settings.

It’s an improvement in having surround sound modulation and equalizer. It falls short in clarity and bass.

Clarity is very subjective and what sounds great to me might not sound the same for you. I love listening to The Eagles and ripped The Eagles Greatest Hits from a CD and downloaded it onto my iPhone. When on a long road trip songs like Take it Easy sound crystal clear on my HK system with the top both up and down.

Choice of music is likely the biggest factor in determining whether someone thinks the system sounds good.

Newer music, and electronic stuff makes much more use of bass & sub-bass, which is where the HK falls down on the job. Not as noticeable with classic & alt rock, folk, country and bluegrass, etc.
